  9. This is a great thread - a true historical treasure trove of Cold War history! One of the things I love about the pre-hero Marvel era was the strong anti-commie themes that ran through the stories from time to time -- strange how I cant seem to recall any anti-communist stories in any DC books (but their must be a few). I wonder if there is an index somewhere identifying these stories? Bill
  10. Here are some brand new additions to my MY GREATEST ADVENTURE collection. Wonderful Moreira cover-story. I Became a Merman is about a scientist who gains mysterious Namor-like powers..Some geat underwater panels... Another great Moreira story - this time with robots! Great Kirby story about an underwater city! Kirby cover and story..about a man who enjoys taking challenging thrills..hmm.
  11. I was showing a superhero collector at the NY Con a couple war books and I prefaced it with "Don't laugh. You collect men in tights." I think he got the point. We can't have it both ways. Either it's disrespect and cheap books or it's respect and a new level for prices. It seems very likely the boards and the Keith Marlow sale were catalysts for the current interest. Hmmm. Very interesting. But ask yourself this: "Do we want war books to be more respected by mainstream collectors? - Thus, driving up demand, drying up the market and skyrocketing the prices? I say thee NAY! War books are dirty and trashy - they deserve no place in the mainstream market! And just for the record, as bad as war books are, 50's DC/Atlas Sci-Fi are even worse! Bill
  12. After a 15 year quest, I have finally secured a nice high grade VF copy of Star Spangled War Stories #90 - start of the "War that Time Forgot" series, with a great Andru/Esposito cover. There is also a great little Mademoiselle Marie gem by Novick. Bill
  13. Here is another book you dont see very often in high grade... After 15 years of searching and countless disapointments, I have finally found my grail book. I was able to secure this copy at the NYCCon yesterday - which now completes my HG SSWS dino collection.. Ahh.. Hmm. So now what do I do?.. Bill
  14. Nice! I'm not too surprised as there were so many great artists who ended up at Atlas. You'll see Atlas horror books all the time with multiple heavyweights and even one of the Battles has Kirby and Ditko. Marc BATTLE #70 also has a great Kirby/Ditko team-up...
