  1. Have we reached the pre final session plateau already? Just shy of 2M? Booooo
  2. For profit. End of story. and for some, profit in something cool they love but can’t own outright.
  3. Why is satisfaction even in this discussion? This is about the viability to invest in comics to make money. Period. Wake up, comics collecting has outgrown the geeky satisfaction for the big grail books. Trust me, the joys of buying the grails lost its pure joy aspect once they were worth 100K each. They are just investments now. All the moderns and silver age Marvels will retain the satisfaction of collecting full ownership. So comics collecting for 99% of all the comics ever created will not be affected. but as I wrote yesterday, if someone believes that Action 1 will be worth twice what it is today in less than 7 years (Wall Street average) he should be able to buy shares and profit in the appreciation of one jointly owned copy…. Just on a larger scale than say 3 collectors pooling their funds to buy on e on Heritage. And provided the vehicle for doing so is a solid company not built to fleece and run.
  4. No. I meant Disney paid 5B to buy marvel. In Disney stock to Ike P mostly
  5. Yeah. All the comparisons of different investment vehicles is obviously valid. Caveat emptor. Do your research and buy, or pass. Just as you’d select one stock over another. This is just one more investment vehicle to choose from. It may in fact be the worst choice for all the reasons stated. Right now it comes with less flexibility than stocks. Stay away. But still, if someone choose to literally invest in a share of a comic they can’t afford, why not? Market is too small for investment banks? Fine, opens the door for smaller firms with a higher risk tolerance. im not a buyer of it, but I can see it’s appeal to others.
  6. Well, you’re just picking out minor details that are different. Yes aspects of this kind of invest, ent don’t match the sophistication and flexibility of more legitimate investments. Surely though, if the idea takes hold, that is all easily added on as competition comes into play to improve the process. At heart you can make money on a new class of objects that you are willing to bet will increase in value. But can’t buy the whole thing by yourself. Let’s be wary but not luddites to new ideas… we didn’t want slabbing either.
  7. Fractional ownership feels inevitable at this point. I agree with Valiantmans initial basic take on it: since you can’t afford to own the actual object you believe strongly will appreciate in value, why not invest in the object and profit from the increase in value. We no more own Apple, Amazon or Microsoft when we own a few shares, but when the stock goes up, we make money. Same approach to investing, albeit that Wall Street has gotten a 200 hundred year (?) head start..
  8. Or maybe it’s because they see values going up and they can own it risk free and make a profit….. AND. Everything you just said.
  9. the trailer was amazing... but, could there be too many heroes villains and everything? Not sure how the new Spider film will affect the price of this copy... For the handful of 3M plus bidders who are sold on chasing this grail book, a new movie cant really be any more incentive at this point, especially since they no doubt already factored in the continuing Marvel Film Universe... A hit film cant hurt though, assuming all theaters are open in December and it can get an old timey 1B opening weekend! Otherwise its another "50M how do I do the math to see if its a hit or a flop again?" covid release.
  10. are we at 2M yet? was close earlier today... maybe just inch upwards a bit until the final day.
  11. Define “write”…. And you can come to your own conclusions.. it may not line up with how Stan viewed writing comics given his other duties and management style.
  12. When an 8.0 sells for close to 150, others will certainly feel comfortable paying 250-300 for a 9.2. Assuming the 8.0 sale wasn’t an outlier, or an upgrade sureshot, 9.2 buyer should feel secure winning it.
  13. Not really. It’s more of a catch up because all other grades already moved up since the last 9.6 sale.
  14. Interesting theory about the switching of covers …. Not entirely sure the look of the crooks being similar is more than Bob Kane’s limited drawing skills, or whatever crook swipe file he was using… but cool observations!
  15. There has been a relapse from the mind bending collectibles prices paid earlier this year, so I agree there’s a solid chance this is a serious headwind against a crazy 4M price. but a copy of the best SA book, and arguably the #3 book in the hobby, that hasn’t come up in public auction in this highest grade… ever? It will be interesting to see where it lands.
  16. It’s funny, maybe sad, that when I read this thread title I assumed the honesty in question was about the dealer/buyers offer relative to the actual value. Like, why do buyers lowball and try to steal a collection.. if sellers are no longer sheep, and stretch the truth now, we’ll, I guess they may have learned the hard way. Just get to a number and if it’s too high, walk away
  17. I don’t remember starting that thread at all. And why was Timely jumping all over me?? but an interesting discussion. So many of us still here posted on it too. So what’s the Human Torch census like today? 2 in 9.6 2 in 9.4 2 in 9.0 1 in 8.5, then 5 5 3 5 4 down to F
  18. Wak up and smell the coffee! Marvel masterpieces came out decades after the original Marvel Age comics Stan wrote/dialogues…. Who cares who wrote the introductions to the 20th reprints of the early stories? If Stan chose to farm out these things, so be it.
  19. I did the same earlier today! Where are the comics?
  20. What about the Burt Reynolds nude centerfold in Playgirl magazine? That was what Theo was copying, not an ad selling body building where all strongmen posed in briefs.
  21. The best advice would have been 5 one thousand dollar copies of AF 15. That pile of low grade unwanted ness is worth 100-200K now. Is there any Golden Age book that increased more? No one saw that coming. High grade copies sure, but not EVERY copy skyrocketing in value.
