2023 CGC Grading Contest Season 2 Fall Edition #8 Signup Thread

THX for the heads up. In! -
Hey Jay cool exercise. I knew off the top of my head I was largely undergrading and this has been commented on for several books of which I am fairly astonished at some of the grades for said books (at least 2 or more grades higher than I would grade). And true to my nature, I am a committed undergrader as I overgraded 6 books (the highest, and only one book, 3 grades) for +9 points and undergraded the remaining 14 books for a whopping -30 points. Net -22. And this in spite of the fact I am trying to give the book the highest grade it deserves.

Wanted to loop back on this and comment. And would be interested in CGC's input. For due diligence on any book does not CGC (regardless of year or era) have to do CT check/scan, count pages, check for interior page issues/cut-outs/etc? Would that not take at least a minute or two? Writing the notes alone would take a half-minute to minute. Doesn't that make 2 minutes a book and for many books 3 or 4 minutes?

Or...wait for it...another 9. WOW. That should be worth a prize...four 9s in a row...LOL. CT13 4.5 1 point toggled back and forth 4.0/4.5 picked the wrong number DS30 4.0 2 points Not sure how this book gets to 5.0...4.5 tops! H3 1.8 3 points DS 6.0 2 points AV7 7.5 1 point As mentioned no way is the H3 a 3.0 that's ridiculous

Late to the commentary party...first bullseye with the WAR FURY...granted easiest book of the bunch. The other 4 not so much (10 points and my worst round by 1). Of course my initial grades would've been all 5 bullseyes/max 1/2-point off and then I stupidly interjected my usual sensibilities to grade the books as if I were selling them or buying them and second-guessed and third-guessed myself into oblivion. As stated here by many, there are 2 or 3 books here that are overgraded by at least a point. If you were offered these books for the market purchase price of the CGC grade and/or the book still raw most would categorically reject that grade position and/or not want that book in their collection at the stated grade.

I am motivated to rescan my ASM 1-20 so I am going to do that soon. For now here is a camera pick of #4. While I think some people are not a fan of the 4-panel approach I love it! Also the cover word baloons and the humor. Just love love this cover...classic Ditko! Also I'm sure Mosconi will be fond of the page quality... -

So happy for you Andrew!! Pretty sure there's a book or two I was able to add to your set (lost my total transcations spreadsheet a while back with an external drive meltdown ). As you know, Spidey is tops for me as well. Cool your 9 is also old label like mine. Lost all my scans as well and will have to rescan my books some day. See if I can find. This is the only scan my 1-20 I have handy... -
Nope. A grand a night for Meadowood (just not into that when you want to spend pretty much all day and night out of your room) (but I was able to pay for the whole stay with my AMEX points ). And there are plenty of hotels $3-4K a night. Went cheap at $500-ish/night Senza Hotel north Napa. Had never stayed there before but we were very happy with it, very cool vide/a small village type setting with several building and beautiful grounds/plus you can park outside your room and not have to wait for valet. Also a really good free breakfast spread every morning. I highly recommend it!

WOW. Thought I had a 7 Round 1 but was an 8 because I forgot about the 1.8 grade. 9 this round even worse So much vacillating...was solid 6.0 on the fun...maybe 6.5...then went the other way with 5.5. HARV was very nice overall...but that dam spine/pages split...5.0 or 4.5...picked 4.5. TTA don't think I could ever get to 7.0...my grade 6.0. ASM another vascillation...6.0/6.5?? picked 6.5. HOS off 1.5 at 7.0...gonna have to go back and study that book...thought CGC would be more lenient with that dark cover/notoriously hard book in HG. On to Round 3...but hey it's Friday

It is pretty amazing to get bullseyes...let alone multiple bullseyes. Any book to me, on any given day could be one of 3 grades pretty much. So for example whether low-grade, mid-grade or high-grade, let's say you think a book is 6.0/6.5/7.0 range (or for the Hulk as example 1.5/1.8/2.0) etc. And then narrowing down to 2 grades you're at a 50-50 chance of guessing right. Today's 5.0 could be tomorrow's 5.5...or 4.5...
