Do others think they were able to discern an 85% spine split on the Hulk? See if you knew that your top grade would start at possibly 2.0 but more likely 1.8/1.5 max. I went back and looked and I wasn't able to discern that. What I'm getting at is certain major defects relegate a top grade and then you go down from there (or stay). I'm happy with the contest and always enjoy it but up for discussion if you can't discern a significant defect from the scans should that not be divulged = level playing field for all so would be OK. Obviously if there was a cutout interior pages or something Mike would divulge that...this seems similar to me in that regard.

Had the Popular 66 at 4.5/5.0 and toggled to the wrong side at 4.5. Lot going on with that book... Had the Archie at 7.5. 7.0 I have no problem with that...very nicely presenting 7.0. NO NO NO. Had this book max. 4.5 with the missing corner. Book CANNOT be a 5.0 with the missing corner...wiggly grading standards at that point. Granted, and otherwise a very nice overall presenting copy but again...that missing corner. Had Hulk at 2.0/2.5. Knew I should've gone 2.0 but went 2.5. At that point, 2.0 vs 1.5 it's a toss-up. Had the spot at 8.5/9.0 and went 9.0...wrong direction. Pretty sure my score is 7. I'll take 7 totals all day.

Interesting no hyphen for SPIDER MAN on the cover...Editor lapse? Whereas Ditko's cover has the hyphen. Maybe it was done consciously as the two words are stacked vertically, so as not to have a hanging hyphen if you will. They could've of course made it into a single line but someone probably liked how it stacked filling in that area of the cover.

It's interesting and different than the original idea that only Sue Storm would turn invisible and obviously not her clothes. But that wouldn't suit the idea as well if you could still see her clothes, wouldn't be as useful...as effective of a super-power. So it get it. Some things are just best left unexplained LOL.

First Prince...what an amazingly FANTASTIC job you are doing with this thread. I am binge-reading as if this were the hottest new series on Apple+ Takes me back to when I was a kid (between 6-10 years old which would be 1961 to 1965 my mom's best friend we called her Aunt Betty but she was not a real blood aunt family-wise...she had 8 kids, 6 boys and 2 girls and we would go to their house for dinner or something at least once a month and the guys had ALL THE COMICS!! Everything...Marvel, DC, Dell, Funny Animals, Richie Rich and all those, you name it and they would give us like a couple dozen comics they had already read to take home with us...we were pretty poor and I wouldn't start buying comics off the rack for another year or two. But loved 'em all back then. Of course Marvel would completely take over my mindset. So wanted to dish the kudos but tagging to this particular issue is incredible and worth mentioning...the same freaking month even...this story is basically the exact same concept at FEB 61 JIM 68 SPRAGG story. Pretty bold (stupid?) and trippy.

I was one who had the book at 8.0. I always give 2 grades on initial inspection and had 8.0/7.5. Not sure or don't remember how CGC accounts for dust shadows of varying degrees but thought it was nice enough to get 8.0 (as some have alluded to I wouldn't want it in my set as an 8.0 let alone an 8.5. But that just might be the thinking in hand it looks 9.0/9.2 and got knocked down to 8.5 for the dust shadow. But very satisfactory ending for me my best round yet...WOOT! Bulls on the Action, X-Men and Star Wars. 1/2 off on the WOW (4.5) and the Avengers (8.0) for 2 points. I accept my participation prize...

This is so sad Shar I hadn't heard until I just saw this. I never met Thomas personally but spoke a couple of times on the phone and a lot of PMs. Especially all things FF. I will come up with a book(s) to post and/or cash donation or both this weekend. Hopefully I hit the jackpot on my Kentucky Derby bets and can donate even more. Condolences to Thomas' family and loved ones.

I had it 6.0/6.5 initial grade and settled on 6.5 as well. Obviously if I was able to discern the detached staple would've dropped to 5.5 maybe lower. I mean clearly this book is a 6.5 without that defect. I echo Hudson's question was anyone able to see that in some way? Both staples are not visible on the back cover scan.

Might be the bourbon goggles...still nicely presenting. Time will tell. All good.

That FF 1 is going to garner some serious coin...looks like that could be in 7.0-8.0 territory...of course along with the AF15 etc etc. Jealousy meter on high! CONGRATS on the inheritance. Keep us informed on the sales program. You thinking of going with one of the larger auction houses?
