  1. The scanner bed is letter-sized, so you won't be able to scan a slab in a single piece. You'll have to do it in two sections, and then piece them together in a photo editing app like Photoshop. As well, even though it says it scans 3D objects, that doesn't mean it will be able to focus properly on the comic within the slab. Most scanners on the market can't discern between the plastic slab and the comic within, so they focus on the closest object - which is the plastic slab. As a result, the comic itself will be out of focus. I'm not saying that this will be the case with this Epson scanner, but unless you can return the scanner after trying it, it's not worth taking the risk. Did you search the boards to see if anyone else has tried this scanner?
  2. Congratulations, Scott. It's a fantastic piece, and an ending to the story that I don't think anyone expected - especially you.
  3. That's a remarkable 3.5 FF #2, Chris. I don't think I've seen a 3.5 that looked as sharp as that. Congrats!!
  4. Stunning. Besides your obvious technical skills, you've nailed the emotion and spirit. Congrats!
  5. Very cool! Do you know where she was when she signed it? Was it at a con? I like the annotation on the CGC label: "Signed and Jeannie by Barbara Eden". "Hey Barbara, can you Jeannie my comic for me?" "Don't Jeannie that joint, my friend, pass it over to me." "You've been Jeannied."
  6. Here's the extent of my Christmas purchases: a GI Joe Treasury. Woo hoo!
  7. Holy carpe diem, Jeff! How many undercopies did you have?!? That's an amazing haul.
  8. I've been divesting Joseph (comicwiz) of his sweet Marvel Treasuries. He was kind enough to part with these beauties this week. Tough to find in any grade, let alone looking like this:
  9. You must have been very good this year. Love these! Congrats.
  10. Beautiful copy of Annie. The interior art on this is actually pretty good. Pencils by Win Mortimer. Here's my copy, which I just picked up a few weeks ago... but it pales in comparison to yours: And a few more higher grade books I've picked up in the past few weeks. I'll post more of my recent finds later today:
  11. I just started to collect Treasuries about six weeks ago, and I just picked up 2 beauties. Thanks to Joseph (comicwiz) for these babies! The cover of the Supes/Ali book is stunning. It looks like it came off the press this afternoon. (Sorry for the extra large scans, but they really show off the quality of the books!)
  12. I think you paid a fair price for the book. It's definitely low grade but not too horrible. A few things I am wondering that arent mentioned...is the cover attached? If not, I feel you over paid. Is the centerfold attached? If not, I feel you overpaid. If those two items are fine...you got a nice deal for an awesome comic. (thumbs u Something is odd about those photos. The staples are visible on the front cover, which is not unusual. But why are the arms of the staples showing on the back cover? The staples should stop in the centre spread and not go through to the back cover. It looks as though someone has stapled through the entire book to hold it together.
  13. Sorry I missed this post. It was not an NYC purchase. The book graded a 6.0, which surprised me but I think CGC has tightened up a touch in the past few weeks. Wow. I find it hard to believe that book got a 6.0. I thought for sure it was a 7.0. My 6.0 #1 doesn't look as nice as that:
  14. Just got word this morning about my Avengers #4. It was a CGC 7.0, but I cracked it out and got Stan to sign it at the Toronto Fan Expo. Sharon from Desert Wind suggested I could also get Joe Simon to sign it, so I left the book with Sharon. Off it went to CGC, then back to Desert Wind for Joe's sig at NYCC, then back to CGC again for grading/slabbing. I was concerned about all that tooing and froing, and the book being taken out of the mylar so many times - especially because there were a couple of Marvel chips that were in danger or being torn further, or bent back. But the word is that it's still a lovely CGC 7.0, except now it's a double Signature Series. I'll post a shot once I get it back from CGC.
  15. Nothing is permanent. Everything changes. It's OK. I'm just dealing with abandonment issues.
  16. Jeff, I can't think of a better reason for bumping this thread back to the top. Nice one!
  17. Did a search... only one other time in the past 5 years!
  18. Agreed! Not only are they nice books, but this has always been my favourite Avengers era. I get a little frisson of pleasure every time I see those covers! Hmmmm... I wonder if "frisson" has ever been used in reference to comics before. I'll have to do a search on the board.
  19. Still got them? Sadly, no. Times were tough in the late 80s and I had to sell them. I did well, but not remotely as well as I would have done if I were selling them today. But hey, any of us could say that about any book we sold back then. But it's not so much the money that I regret. It's not having those 2 books in my collection any more.
  20. I've posted this story before, but I always like a new opportunity to trot it out again: Biggest thrill was in the early 1980s, wandering through a used book fair and spying a cardboard box of comics under a seller's table. Asked if I could look through them, and my heart almost stopped when I found FF #2 in (what I now know to be) VF condition. Kept flipping and I think my heart DID stop when I saw the next book: FF #1, again in VF shape. I made sure no one else saw the books, and I quietly and calmly asked the guy what he wanted for them. He obviously knew they were worth something, but had no idea how much, because he said $50. I asked him, "each?!", and he said "for both". I gave $50 cash and got the heck out of there as fast as possible!
