  1. It has a 1992 copyright printed in the bottom right corner, which seems odd if it were OA. Could it be a limited litho? Or a hand-coloured print?
  2. A crazy amount of art and likely more to come. 109 pieces so far in the "cover" category. 46 splash pages. One example of the volume: I believe there are 30 Gene Colan Daredevil panel pages.
  3. Here's a short list that I'm sure others can add to. There isn't much (any?) of an OA scene at the retail level in Toronto, and even the back issue/collectible comics retail scene isn't what it used to be in the age of internet buying/selling. Still, there are some great shops run by passionate people. The Beguiling: my top pick for sequential art fans. They moved recently and I haven't been to the new location, but they were always the most esoteric store and had the best depth and breadth of sequential art-related inventory. http://www.beguilingbooksandart.com Silver Snail: is this Toronto's oldest comic shop? I believe so. Along with Dragon Lady (which closed about 5 years ago), it's been around since the 1970s but has moved locations at least a few times. Now on Yonge St in the heart of the downtown core at Yonge/Dundas. I recall their back issue inventory as being pretty run of the mill and overpriced, and they seem to focus more on figurines, collectibles and HC and trade paperback books these days. Still worth a visit. http://silversnail.com Paradise Comics: another shop that has been around for decades. The owner, Peter Dixon, used to run a wonderful annual convention, but was eventually bought out by Wizard World who abandoned Toronto after a few years. Definitely worth a visit. Accessible by subway. On Yonge St., but further north than the Snail. https://paradisecomics.com Excalibur: a small west end family-run shop. They've moved much of their business online but still have a bricks and mortar location. Apparently their hours are sporadic, so call first. Accessible by subway (Royal York stop). http://excaliburcomicstoronto.com West End Comics: I've never been here, but I've heard good things about this family-run shop. http://www.westendcomics.ca And you might want to visit BMV Books. It's a used book store but they used to have a decent selection of back issue comics. Their inventory is always changing and in the past there were sometimes some cool finds, especially if you got there soon after a new batch of books arrived. I haven't checked out their comics in 4 or 5 years, though, so I don't know if the situation is still the same. http://www.bmvbooks.com
  4. So the new fake is a fake of a fake? Sheesh. As I was prepping that post, I though the "original" auction looked familiar. I have a vague recollection of it being discussed here.
  5. Not sure if animated GIFs work here, but I'll give it a try. Here are some comparisons of the original strip and the fake. The original has the United Features credit and the Schulz signature is inset from the frame. In the fake, the Schulz sig overlaps the frame edge. Also, in the fake, there is much more space between the panels.
  6. Yup. The Peanuts was copied from another auction. Not only copied the description (and changed the year his "husband" won the strip from 1990 to 1980), but copied the strip as well. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/322520411763?rmvSB=true
  7. The thing is, the United Features credit line isn't pasted vertically in the first panel. The credit line doesn't appear anywhere on the art. As well, the writing style for this description is completely different than the seller's other auctions. I think the seller copied this description from someone else's auction.
  8. Also: great writeup. A fine read.
  9. Well, you DID also spend half a day guessing when the auction would end, and wondering if anyone would snipe you at the last second, and if someone DID snipe you, whether or not that would extend the auction further, and if so, how long it might extend it. A bit nerve wracking, I expect. You know how I feel about this win, but I'll join the public chorus and shout "huzzah"! This page has found its perfect home.
  10. To add to Glen's point, if I bid at 11:50 am and the auction is automatically extended for three more hours, I don't want to sit by my computer for the next theee hours to see if anyone else bids. But if I go away and return 3 hours later, and discover that in the interim someone else did outbid me, there is no way to tell when that person bid - and therefore no way to tell how much longer the auction has been extended beyond my initial 3 hour extension. It's a guess as to when the auction will actually close. The whole process is too convoluted and lacks transparency.
  11. Well, as far as no-cap panel pages go, it is a nice no-cap panel page. ?
  12. Oh for sure. You may have missed my earlier post. I don't have a problem with people who are not willing to sell art to me. They don't owe me anything. And in each these cases as least they've said they will give me the opportunity to buy the page when the time is right for them to sell. As you said, at least I know where the pages are. There's satisfaction in that. Wish I could track down the remaining pages.
  13. Of the two pages I've located from the book I'm trying to complete, the owner of one said that I would have first dibs on it when he decides to sell it (correct Glen? ) and the owner of the other said that he would put a note on it asking that either his widow or his estate offers it to me after he dies.
  14. This ^ just made my day. At least I know the page is in good hands. And you're not the only one who hasn't sold me a key page from that book. I think the "come back when you're closer to completion" response is a good one. I'd like to believe that both of you will sell me your pages once I track down most of the other nine missing pages. Given that a sum total of zero pages have turned up in the last six years, I'm fairly certain it'll never happen. Then again, I was also certain that pigs couldn't fly... and look what happened last November.
  15. J David Spurlock posted this: May 9th?
  16. RIP Rich Buckler I saw that Steve Leialoha posted on Facebook that Rich passed away. That's all I know. Alex Johnson started a thread in Original Art, but there's no other news yet in that thread.
  17. Steve Leialoha also acknowledged it on FB.
  18. Another HTD collector offered this to me nearly 3 years ago and I jumped at the chance. No price negotiation. I had heart palpitations for the next month until I actually had it in my hands. Other than the cover from this issue, it doesn't get much better for a HTD fan.
  19. There's are a half dozen or more pages from Howard the Duck #9 that have eluded me, but this one is at the top of the list. An interior splash.
  20. A terrific Buscema Avengers page. I loved this initial run of his on the title.
  21. He has an original Banksy for sale, too. A bargain at $1.
  22. My first purchase was two Gene Colan Howard the Duck pages in early 2009 from Heritage. Average cost of the pages was $330. They're both from HTD #9 where Howard goes to Canada. Since then I've been trying to track down the rest of the pages from that issue, and I'm about half way home. This page is interesting because it's the only HTD page that I'm aware of that's signed by all three creators: Gerber, Colan and Leialoha.
  23. It all goes round in circles. I got in touch with the Ebay seller of the B&W Kirby fake who lives in Ontario and I asked if he had any other Kirby artwork for sale. He sent me this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wqesouu6q2ppxx/6.jpg?dl=0 "pls find attached the pic of kirby drawing i have, jack kirby stamped verso, gallery stamped verso" It's the same piece that Glen posted at the start of this thread from the liveauctioneers website. I asked for his price. I also asked if the inks and watercolours were done by Kirby or if Kirby only did the pencils. I'll let you know what he says.
  24. In case my post was unclear, I didn't buy this. I know better. But since I live so close to the seller, I thought about confronting him in person on behalf of the team.
  25. I think I need to make the 45 minute drive to Hamilton to track down "rah-4224". I haven't dealt with EBay in ages. Can you still get contact info for a seller if you file a dispute?
