  1. I'm not a big fan of debt, BUT I also don't want to see this hobby completely dominated by people who can pay cash right now for super expensive books. Any insufficiently_thoughtful_person can write a check. If someone's financial situation does not allow them to pay cash, refusing to take on manageable time-payment debt means they will never be able to buy expensive books unless their financial circumstances improve, perhaps dramatically. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for that to happen. I'd rather see some books in the hands of less well-heeled but more dedicated collectors. Debt is a tool, but you do have to know how to manage it.
  2. Best I could do at an Estate Sale that had probably 1000 books, but was 99 percent Looney Tunes, newer Disney and Archie. Somehow I missed word of the sale that was a "large collection from 1957-1970" about 90 minutes away. sigh.
  3. Last one for today. JIM 116, inside front cover and splash page. Address stamp is also on bottom left of splash page. Steven was a Bond fan, apparently.
  4. Here's a close-up of when I think is a store stamp from the cover of FF 50. It's a little smeary, and the stamp color blends into the background color making it hard to see (for me). Looks like the City is "Carroll" something.
  5. This is the splash page from AV 55. I have a half-dozen Avengers books with this stamp on the splash page. Well after publication, so I figure either an LCS "received" stamp, or one of those who owned it before I did. Not likely an LCS as I don't have any other titles with this stamp (or anything like it) and I didn't buy just a few books from any of the LCS's I visited in the mid-70s and certainly not just a single title.
  6. It seems like it would have been sitting in a waiting area at the shoe repair - ? - along with Penthouse and Sports Illustrated. A little extra advertising.
  7. This thread proves that you're right. Look who is getting the "blame" for the unacceptable delay in shipping out books bought and paid for. This is more an "instant gratification" world than it's ever been before and people have become used to same-day or next-day shipping on almost everything. On the other hand, I can't imagine the infrastructure required to house and track what could be thousands (or 10s of thousands!) of consigned books, which would include the liability of storing those books in proper conditions for what I believe can be long periods of time until they sell. The "commission" on that might be equally unacceptable to the delays. It's a tough problem.
  8. This sounds more like an "unscrupulous or horribly disorganized seller" problem than a Comic Connect one, although their communication system could use some work. Hopefully, these two books are not from the same seller, but the stories sure sound similar. Comic Connect would be well served by declining any further consignment business from the consignor(s) of these books. That's pretty frustrating.
  9. I'm open to this casting, however I would like to see them quit casting actors in more than one role in the wider MCU. Also, in my opinion, AT-J is much too young for this role. Many of the "cool" early Spidey villains set up an "older, experienced" villain vs. a high school kid. Vulture, Doc Ock, Kraven were all like this and it worked as a dynamic. I thought Mysterio in "Far From Home" captured that, although he (spoiler alert) posed as a mentor for a while. So we'll see - I'm predisposed to liking the MCU movies, so they have some work to do to disappoint me.
  10. As you wish, Captain. As you wish. Also, one of my personal favorite FF covers.
  11. I'm at 1786. Majority are Silver/Bronze/Copper ASM, FF, Avengers and JIM/Thor of which only 3 are slabbed. Some 60s/70s partial runs of IM, ST, Hulk, Cap, Subby, 70s horror and the "new" stuff Marvel was bringing out - HTD, Eternals, Nova. Some other cool stuff.
  12. We need a poll on here asking everyone 25 and under if they intend to start collecting GA or SA comics in the future (if they aren't already).
  13. And the CL auctions are largely that way for the stuff I follow. Admittedly HG for the most part, but you can go way into an ASM or FF run and have very few books available under $1000 unless they are more mid-grade. Wild.
  14. The current CL auction has a 6.5/WP with a bid of $6,501 with a half hour to go.
  15. That's my experience. We have a few cousins in the 5-11 year old range and they love the Marvel movies/shows. They were over here one day talking about WandaVision so I said, "do you guys know that Vision started out in comic books, and here's his first appearance" and hauled out Avengers 57. Basically got yawns, not that they're going to spend a lot of (or any) money on comics today, and maybe they'll remember that day down the line when they can. Everyone starts somewhere for some reason, so there's no downside to talking up the hobby.
