  1. I'm pretty new here, and have only made a handful of purchases - not sure if I will ever sell anything - but all the cool kids seem to have one of these threads, so here I am. Feel free to leave any honest feedback on our transaction(s).
  2. Pretty nice looking girlfriend for an ugly guy with no money. Must make up for it "in other ways."
  3. I bought about a half-dozen books with this stamp from this store in the 70s, mostly my beat-to-heck Bronze horror books. This is the splash page from Vault of Evil #1.
  4. There doesn't appear to be much question that there are collectors who will only buy well-centered, well-wrapped, well-cut comics. So the answer to your question is "yes," but you're talking about a sub-set of collectors (a significant group) who are not going to be interested in mis-wrapped books.
  5. Like most of the stuff I was buying at the time, I didn't know/care about how important this book was and am lucky it came after the period where I was degrading books through ignorance.
  6. I usually don't like to join clubs that would have someone like me as a member.
  7. Looks like they are trying to set it up to protect sellers and the limited universe of buyers allowed. As Ares notes, if they can generate traffic, it could provide a good alternative for sellers.
  8. I'm not a big fan of debt, BUT I also don't want to see this hobby completely dominated by people who can pay cash right now for super expensive books. Any insufficiently_thoughtful_person can write a check. If someone's financial situation does not allow them to pay cash, refusing to take on manageable time-payment debt means they will never be able to buy expensive books unless their financial circumstances improve, perhaps dramatically. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for that to happen. I'd rather see some books in the hands of less well-heeled but more dedicated collectors. Debt is a tool, but you do have to know how to manage it.
  9. Best I could do at an Estate Sale that had probably 1000 books, but was 99 percent Looney Tunes, newer Disney and Archie. Somehow I missed word of the sale that was a "large collection from 1957-1970" about 90 minutes away. sigh.
  10. Last one for today. JIM 116, inside front cover and splash page. Address stamp is also on bottom left of splash page. Steven was a Bond fan, apparently.
  11. Here's a close-up of when I think is a store stamp from the cover of FF 50. It's a little smeary, and the stamp color blends into the background color making it hard to see (for me). Looks like the City is "Carroll" something.
  12. This is the splash page from AV 55. I have a half-dozen Avengers books with this stamp on the splash page. Well after publication, so I figure either an LCS "received" stamp, or one of those who owned it before I did. Not likely an LCS as I don't have any other titles with this stamp (or anything like it) and I didn't buy just a few books from any of the LCS's I visited in the mid-70s and certainly not just a single title.
  13. It seems like it would have been sitting in a waiting area at the shoe repair - ? - along with Penthouse and Sports Illustrated. A little extra advertising.
  14. This thread proves that you're right. Look who is getting the "blame" for the unacceptable delay in shipping out books bought and paid for. This is more an "instant gratification" world than it's ever been before and people have become used to same-day or next-day shipping on almost everything. On the other hand, I can't imagine the infrastructure required to house and track what could be thousands (or 10s of thousands!) of consigned books, which would include the liability of storing those books in proper conditions for what I believe can be long periods of time until they sell. The "commission" on that might be equally unacceptable to the delays. It's a tough problem.
