Oh yeah without a doubt. I think we’ve seen enough sales to know the Promise books previously sold on the high end, or just during the comic boom.

the Promise books previously sold on the high end, or just during the comic boom.

you mean sold on the completely insane end !!!!!!!!  No way those prices reflected anything in reality then or now ..........

Quite a jump in price from a 5.0 to a 5.5. Guess im not upgrading my 5.0 any time soon

looking like more of an outlier recently than anything ..... sort of like the $100,000 5.0 a while back. I'm sure you (and I) were very excited a couple years ago (I have a 5.0 as well)

But this graph will get very interesting as we move forward a few more years into the future

Maybe so. But there is something special about a lot of them. The obvious condition and the fact that they were saved from the ravages of time and without the desire to profit from them. The stories. Both of the original owner as well as those who made the discovery. Many have a special place in the history of the hobby.

I have many of them bought at the time of discovery. I never paid the huge price jumps they have made today. Although, I paid slight multiples of guide back in the early days of the guide.

Most are wonderful books that every collector should have at least one in their collection if for nothing else than for their history.

    yup

batmanis#1 was annoying because he pretty much exclusively posted his clearly biased opinion that this book was a great investment, classic pump and dump. did the same with xmen1. seemed also like a pretty clueless older person, unable to read the room or the accepted etiquette.

having said that, i think those who are opposed to the including of recent pricing news on this phenomenally valuable book are being unrealistic and annoying as well. i dont need a weekly update on price info on every af15 sale, but as it is my most valuable comic investment i cannot pretend that i own it just because i love the book. i do indeed love it as i do most ditko spideys. but it is also a large financial investment, and i'm certainly not wealthy enough to pretend i dont care how it does.

and someday, it might pay for fifteen minutes of college education for my son.

I picked up this ASM #9 @ Fanexpo Toronto and this completes my run from #1-present (#927) + annuals.  I'm not a variant completist, I just pick up one I like.

This has been an ongoing goal of mine since starting back in 1994.

No AF#15 unfortunately,  Missed the boat on that one but luckily picked up #1 several years ago before it spiked.

I also have complete runs of Spectacular,  MTU, Web of, and virtually all the other satellite titles.

Seriously, congratulations!! I know exactly how this feels for you as I have the exact same run  ( ....and ongoing as well)  but I was lucky enough to grab AF#15 a while back, so it is a very precious run for me.

I could be wrong, but I believe the other company implemented that several years ago. Got rid of a gray label or something and now they just list the resto on the normal label. Pretty sure nothing changed with any sales. If anything you just have to be much more careful when buying a book, make sure to read the label carefully. But once again, I could be wrong. Just what I recall.

    this is correct

I remember seeing that copy and thinking, I could go for it and I'd be getting probably the nicest 8.0 there is, but I decided to sit it out.  No regrets but I'm still looking for a "forever" copy of just a handful of remaining SA keys -- AF #15, ASM #1, and JIM #83.  I feel like I got exactly what I was looking for with these.

I’m soo confused. I’m still waiting to see the abundance of CGC .5’s that have been graded the last few years and are purportedly completely coverless. When that day comes, my eyes will be opened. Front or back, a cover is a cover. There’s nothing unjustifiable about a book with a back cover and no front cover getting a CGC .5.

I agree - what is this thread actually about ? I'm confused - if I wanted to drop $408K on a book, I can see it (auction houses actually show and fully describe the book). Plus, there are NO 0.5 comics that are completely coverless as far as I know (and others here know) ......

But the bottom line is you HAVE to see and know everything about a book if your are even spending hundreds on a book, let alone thousands ...

Jimbo's CatMan  #31 is absolutely beautiful, graded over 20 years ago, reposted for benefit of this discussion.

The color registration is about 99% with very slight, inconsequential red shift to right, not perfect, but very close.

The PQ can't be seen, but it's clearly noted on the label. Is that what makes this particular copy exceptional, ...or is it the sticker? (shrug)

Here's another copy from another cat's collection: Same grade, but slight, noteworthy difference of opinion in respect to PQ on the label, and no sticker.

Alas, this poor unfortunate collector's trashy copy has a bit less writing on the cover, but lacks the revered sticker. :sorry:

Note: None of this takes away from the awesomeness of Jimbo's stellar copy. It's a superb book with or without a CVA sticker!  :foryou:

Oh My !!!!   Spectacular, both !!  I give my stamp of approval ...

The last couple of sales with this grade this year were $122k and $117k.  Last year in 2022, the last sale before it went spiraling down was around $200k. Looks like the trend so far is rising from the lows. We'll see if this keeps up.  This is only one sale, need a few more.

I see a brutal $43K for a recent 5.0 sale, but then looked at grader's notes and it has heavy MC ...... but really need to see these mid-grades get back up there to believe we've turned the corner back up the hill
