  1. Best is to pool multiple sources and then logically come to a happy medium ... start with a subscription to GPA for Comics, and then watch auction results from CLink, CConnect and Heritage. That's what I do.
  2. I agree with all here, 1 week to 2 weeks maximum from the time you know they received the books - after that, just call them .. they are excellent at answering your questions.
  3. CCS/CGC are definitely not breaking any records for speed of service these days -- read their terms of times to complete certain services, and then ADD the time together..i.e. if a press is X number of days for your item, and grading is Y number of days for your item, the time can easily be X + Y days ( and that can turn into a LONG time for basic economy books that are under 1K in value )
  4. I don't know, but it kinda seems like common sense .. if you don't have much of a collection, and you are looking at a "big" purchase, then it would simply be a matter of "can you afford such a purchase" within the parameters of your life/your family life ? The one thing about accumulating a bit of a collection is that it gets to the point where you can "trade up" so to speak for that item that is "bigger" and "better" than what you currently have, and that will ALWAYS happen if you catch this collecting bug again. Either straight trading, or a combo of books plus cash. But always buy within your means. It sounds simple and maybe stupid to say, but the temptation will be there often to overextend....take it from a current Canadian collector
  5. guess they are grading their stuff now .......
  6. absolutely !! mine is 5.0 as well, mid-level goodness
  7. awesome response Mitch, and thank you. You are right, I cannot appreciate what it was like to be a collector way back then - much different than now, than ten years ago, even twenty years ago. but .... I still think you should post a book or two !! ...... ok, i am kidding. You do what is best for you, but I will keep reading your posts and advice
  8. Yeah, OK. Good luck with that. He won't even respond to this, never does. He will remain a mystery forever , "Mannup" he will not.
  9. had no clue, I will definitely look into that name Brent Huigens
  10. so cool !! also, I love your avatar , I don't own an original flying eyeball poster, but I do have a 9.8 first reprint ........
  11. looks correct, but remember his signature has always been a printed, block letter type of signature, so probably more open to counterfeiting ........
  12. oh, I see your point, ok ... you meant no one cares about whether the 3 grail restored are CGC, CBCS, or PGX ........ not sure I agree, but yes it would depend on the $$$ to re-slab a CBCS or PGX to a CGC slab ...........
  13. nobody cares on restored books !? really ? when they are those 3 books, I would think a LOT of people care, just to own one complete in any form must be a dream for most .......
  14. Do we know for sure this book has rusted staples today , I'm not clear on this .... but what about just plain staple replacement with nice non-rusted vintage staples ? I had a high-end GA book purchased raw several years ago, and Matt identified non-vintage staples on it and replaced with vintage, and it got a blue 9.0 .....
  15. Welcome back JTMF ! That name is unforgettable and I just have a sense of "home" when I see posts from the wise elder statemen (and women) on here. Don't forget to post some goodness from your 2016-2020 sabbatical from the Boards
  16. for sure, only Tec #27 would be in the running, but respectfully it ain't gonna happen I don't think
  17. Holy Bat***t Batman !!!!! Talk about coming out from left field, someone here must know more than what they are sayin ' ...........
  18. Action #1 is more than just a Superman book. Using the argument that one "likes" Batman more than Superman, or Superman "sucks", is all irrelevant... Action#1 (like the Mona Lisa to art , like the Honus Wagner T206 to card collecting,) is now THE representative of all superhero comics and is THE ultimate grail in the superhero collecting market. It will be quite the feat to knock this collectible off of the top pedestal IMHO FISH
  19. I've got to believe that is a bit weak for a non-MC AF#15 5.0 .........
  20. yup ! I look on ebay all the time, although those prices asked have to be taken with a huge grain of salt, but I also subscribe to PWWC which shows past auction prices, and it's all pointed arrows upwards .......
  21. I honestly think it's skyrocketed exponentially just in the last year or so - I've had a PSA 7 Gretzky rookie since my childhood that I kept from bicycle tires and scrambles in the school yard, got it graded several years ago And it stayed at $1000 for a long time, then creeped slowly to 2 and even 3 grand ...... now it's approaching 5k and even more just in the last little while And my Connor Mcdavid (2015 SP Future Watch auto/999) that I bought for $1500 a few years ago is pushing over 5K ........
