  1. I think this "consultants" thing is just as big an issue, if not more so. I have a bad feeling right now.
  2. For me, I would call the auction result shocking. I didn't even feel this book was worth tracking, let alone bidding on it! I know I bought a vast majority of my Romance books when they were cheap, and now the prices have moved up, even sharply up. But I have to shake my head and wonder at some of the prices these books bring. Maybe I'm a dinosaur.
  3. Unfortunately, this did not happen to just you. I'm still waiting...for Josh to come back from safari...so he can sign the check...and maybe, I will get it before the end of January.
  4. It is not necessarily a bad thing. A while back, I bought a Golden Age romance book that was graded 9.2, with slight color touch. I got it real cheap. Obviously, the seller just wanted to get rid of this monstrosity. I could not spot the color touch through the slab, so I sent it in for color touch removal and re-grading. It came back 9.0. A real nice looking book! I can't see where the color touch was "scrapped" off. This book will stay in my collection for a very long time, even though it is worth at least ten times what I have in it.
  5. I bought this a while back and I didn't realize (then) how in demand this book is...
  6. I subscribe to a couple of antique publications and every so often they mention how VHS tapes go for very strong money at auction. I try never to tell people how to spend their money or what comic age they should collect or what food they should eat or what color they should paint their house. But when it comes to collecting VHS tapes, I just don't get it.
  7. Who doesn't like "kissing" covers? Or about to kiss...
  8. But there are a few Romance photo covers that I really like. Who doesn't like a "bad" couple. And the color selection on the Young Brides is outstanding!
  9. The Romance genre has long been considered a second-tier collectible compared to others. But within this genre, photo covers rank even lower. There are a few photo covers that command strong money, but the vast majority are blah. Here is one that really is boring, even for the diehard Romance collector.
  10. This is one of the first Romance books I bought. I thought the cover was so funny, as this only happens in the movies, right? It was very, very cheap because it is low grade, and nobody collected these "love" books back then. It took me 25 years to find a better copy (7.0 condition). So does this mean it is rare, or rare in grade? Or does it mean it does not command a lot of money and hence, there is no reason for collectors to sell their copies.
  11. Very true statement. There are some "lesser" books that rarely come up for sale, let alone in grade. So, I looked through several boxes and I scanned a few books that may fit your description.
  12. No kidding. I had never seen this issue before, so I jumped at the chance to get it. I paid a little more than I wanted, but it is in nice shape.
  13. Yesterday, I went to the LA Con for a couple of hours and picked up a few nice books. Until I scan them, here's one that I "love".
  14. I picked a few Atlas books in the last few months. Here's one...
  15. Do you consider "El Pollo Loco" coupons to be barter?
  16. I agree. For the submitter, I think it is a "push". For the hobby as a whole, it is a "loss". Darn, it was a nice book.
  17. Whenever I ship books to buyers, I always take pictures to show the books and to show how I packed them. This is for insurance purposes; in case I ever have to file a claim. I guess this works for shipping books to CGC too. But I did cancel my CGC membership a few years ago because of other reasons. Most of those reasons have been documented on these boards. This thread just added one more reason to that list. I hope they find your book.
