Because you’re admitting this individual was capable of swapping out reholdered. And unlike the blue labels where you just have to verify grade is actually correct to verify the book wasn’t swapped out with a yellow label you have to verify the signature too. Which CGC has never verified signatures, they’ve only ever given yellow labels to books they witnessed.
But you can see from the front cover that it’s the same book that was reholdered.

so if someone bought one of these and sends it back to CGC they can’t possibly retain the yellow label
Why wouldn’t the AF 15 retain its yellow label? I believe the only reason it’s on the list is because it was reholdered.

What’s the cost of getting a reholder with a custom label?

That's an interesting thought. Maybe CGC put certain comics on their list as a way to take Briva3 off the market as best they can without identifying him.
Isn’t it just a list of all the reholders that Briva3 submitted?

Given the amount of submissions the list seems to be a bit light, they should all be suspect IMO. I guess once the list of 350 books has been vetted they can sweep this under the rug and we will never know if there was any “inside” work being done.
With the list now posted, I doubt we’ll be seeing else from CGC about this.
Unless any of the books discovered in this thread aren’t on the list.

Same color loss by the building in both books. So my thought it was cleaned/pressed before the new custom label doesn't seem as feasible.
Looks to be the same book. No swap. No problem. No?

Totally possible, but still apparently on CGC's list.
It’s on the list because it was reholdered.

The Avengers 57 8.5 is one of the ones that ComicLink sold multiple times and I reviewed the sellers, buyers and the images. The images are the same in each case, and the book is fine.
What do you mean the images are fine? The scammer gets the books reholdered, so the images in the database of course match up.

Ya, I think the odds are it's legit. However, I would have put the odds of this book from my LCS being on the list were close to zero. lol.
Definitely send it in to check for the pin-up

I'd love to find and read that thread. Btw, I believe he also had incredible knowledge and expertise with signature forgeries? I'm pretty sure that's one of the charges he went to jail for...
Pretty sure the thread was quickly removed

Dupecake being involved wouldn't surprise me. I'm pretty sure he sold out of a Kew Gardens address back in the day and I know one of his shills at one point had an Arizona address. Which are 2 of the current addresses in question. And we know he used shills to sell his material as well.
Didn’t he post a how to about cracking and resealing slabs back in the day?

Here is the Amazing Fantasy 15

How exactly could this scam be pulled off in that book?
That’s a good question. There has to be a reason it made the list though…

But the original 10 9.8s (or 5 or however many he bought) still exist. Why would he sit on those?
He wouldn’t. He would keep resubbing them in order to get more books to swap with.

Wouldn’t the same serial numbers repeatedly on reholder cause suspicion?
He gets a new cert every time he resubs an actual 9.8

What is he going to do with the actual 9.8? He has to have a 9.8 label right. Which means he needs a legit 9.8. Once he switches them he now has a raw 9.8. He isn't just sitting on those. He is reselling them when he resubs them and they come back 9.8 again.
Why wouldn’t they continue to swap those 9.8s with lesser copies?

Too many examples of the same book and given TAT's it wouldn't be practical to do this. Not that long ago, TAT's were months long. Imagine having to wait 6 months for your 1 copy of a 9.8 to pull the scam again.
Why would the scammer sell an actual 9.8 and not swap it?

Why would one keep a stack of 9.8 raws? If you can swap lower grade books into 9.8s for reholder, then sub the 9.8s that are legit as new submissions it’s double profit time!
I’m not suggesting the scammer has a stack of actual 9.8s
I’m suggesting that they are resub bing the same raw 9.8 to continue getting new 9.8 slabs to swap with.

as for all those 194s in 9.8, half are still 9.8 in theory as he/she swapped books, then resubbed those 9.8s for double profit.
Are they though? Wouldn’t the scammer be using the actual 9.8 slabs to continue the switcheroo? I doubt they were selling actual 9.8s
