  1. Along with the ability to fly, Miss America was very talented with her fists. Her stories contained a lot of good ole fashioned butt-whoopin' I think Pauline Loth was the artist for all of Miss America's stories in her own comic/mag, but Miss America made several previous appearances in Marvel Mystery Comics and I'm not sure who drew those. Perhaps someone with more Marvel/Timely knowledge could enlighten us? I think Ken Bald drew some of them.
  2. Sooner or later I'll scan it and post it on CAF but it's NSFW. It has everything you could want by Russ Heath, though.
  3. I know it's a very rare pulp but that seems like a high price tag for a coverless copy.
  4. I would recommend Heritage Auctions too. They list high grade early Playboy issues sometimes. If you have the first issue it's very desirable, especially a nice copy.
  5. Other early issues in exceptionally nice shape are probably worth some money too. You see them in Heritage auctions occasionally. Not sure about "smut." 1950's Playboys seem kind of quaint to me.
  6. At San Diego con in the early days, we used to sleep in the film room if we couldn't get or afford a hotel room. They would run films all night and we would slump in the back in the dark. Oh, good times! I did that too, a couple of times. I remember seeing "Spider Babies" in the wee hours of the morning and one year they showed "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls." (Russ Meyer films ) Ah,....the El Cortez years!
  7. Nice pickup! Luckily the final price on that one didn't go as high as similar books of late. There have been a lot of bidding wars for some of these books This series and G.I. Jane are tough runs to collect in any shape. Nice copy!
  8. I read a few of those when I was a kid and liked them. I'll have to get them out and see if they've held up.
  9. I think I posted it on the boards somewhere before but here it is again. Nothing fancy, but a solid copy.
  10. I had a beat-but-complete Fair copy of Sugar & Spike #1 that I thought was overpriced when I bought it but I didn't know when I would find another. Eventually I upgraded to a VG+ (which was not cheap). That was years ago and I believe I've seen another copy at SDCC since then. I don't really know how strong the demand is but I think all the low numbers are pretty uncommon.
  11. Here it is. Sorry the scan is kind of dark. The biggest miracle of all with that sketch is that he did it at a convention. . .heavy breach of Heath protocol. I think it may be one of two times I've ever seen him do a convention sketch in 23 years of collecting sketches. He's done LOTS of sketches outside comic events, but almost never AT a convention. That is a badåss sketch all the way, dude! I sat with Russ for quite awhile at SDCC while he drew it. Russ is very meticulous and after finishing the pencils, he discovered he had left a specific inking brush back in his hotel room. He told me he would have to finish the drawing later. I didn't want to risk an interruption of the creative momentum so I ran over to Tom Yeates (a great guy!) who graciously offered the necessary inking materials and Russ finished the piece. He's a great artist and a real kick to hang out with.
  12. Here it is. Sorry the scan is kind of dark.
  13. Since the question about the June '70 issue of Men came up again, and I think I asked about it awhile back on this thread, I'm finally posting a couple of scans. Anybody recognize this story? I've looked for the magazine on eBay from time to time but still don't have a copy. I bought the page from Jim years ago. He said he enjoyed drawing this feature. On the back of the page:
  14. I haven't checked out this thread in awhile. There have been some nice pick-ups lately! There are some nice Atlas westerns and an All-Star Western with a washtone cover in the FS forum, under Mick's Mix.
  15. Great books! You should show those off more often.
  16. Jan. '55 has a classic Bettie Page Christmas centerfold and I think it does get a higher price.
  17. You guys wear your Big-5 shirts? I've kept mine in a big mylar all these years, just waiting for CGC to announce that they'll grade and slab t-shirts. Hah! Since none of yours will be in mint condition, mine will be the highest graded!
  18. Re: DC war banquet Mick, thanks again for spearheading this as always, and a splendid time was had by all. I agree with your proposal.
  19. I bought an All-Star Comics #5 and Mike brought it to SDCC so I could pick it up in person. Great guy and we got to chat about comics for a little bit.
