  1. Wow....that is high to me....Rick, (Detective27) what do you think? I have a strong "feeling" as to where the price both "should" go, and "might" end up... however, I have found from past experience that when I am an active participant , I should keep my cards "close to me" I'll say this much. I think this book, and this book alone, will be the preamble for HG 22s to come over the years... Uh oh, if Rick is in the house then the rest of us might as well forget about chasing it. Hey, Rick is a smart man....and this means there is a price he will pay....and will NOT pay.

  3. I'd like to know the owner of this one,,, http://www.comicspriceguide.com/blog/post/2008/08/21/Showcase-22-CGC-60-Clears-3K.aspx :
  4. We all agree. Earlier, I think someone said the book may soar as high as $4k. But, I'd say $3500 max. I think Rich (showcase1959) is at my 2 week old offer of $5k for his WP 6.0 !!
  5. Wow....that is high to me....Rick, (Detective27) what do you think? Let's use BB 28 as a comparison. The 3rd highest graded copy (which there is five) sold in Comiclink for $21000. Also, let's use Avengers 1 as a comparison. A 8.0 (5th highest and 23 copies) sold in CL for $26000 and a 9.0 (4th highest and ten copies) for $20000 again in CL. SC22 is in very high demand and comparable to AF15 and Avengers 1. Hey, doen't that look low? I thought more like 5 million!!! Ha ha. If my leg wasn't sore I'd be dancing. Rob, that's from lack of food. Your wife said you don't eat...

  8. Descent reading copy. Can't just own only one copy...some members in this club have a second copy...third copy...fourth copy so far. Some of us peon collectors only have ONE copy... I guess it's the definition of quantities or qualities. It's nice to have more than one copy, but attaining a high grade copy will be satisfying for most people. (thumbs u peewee22 has a very nice copy now, I believe. (thumbs u Last month, peewee bought a 7.5 off-white to white pager copy from detective27kid. This is the highest page quality for any copy above 7.5. Your WPer ain't too shabby either !!! By the way, the Mound City copy is slabbed and on the website...pages look dark to me...but a gorgeous book...link below... http://picasaweb.google.com/MoundCityauctions/Showcase?feat=embedwebsite#5377680399266741170

  11. You gotta AA16? Post it! I guess in the GA section...
  12. Just a great cover and book! Looks like the PQ is superb!!
  13. It is probably too pricey as is right now to see much of a jump. Didn't a 5.5 go for $60K in the last Clink auction? yep I had 3 AA 16's just 3 months ago, have sold 2 of them...but, this is not a book that will be affected by the movie for the following reasons: 1)short supply...this book has always had more demand than supply and prices are already strong 2)it is Alan Scott, has nothing (technically) to do with Hal Jordan (movie spec) 3) price point (avg copy of AA 16 will run you $20,000 good info
  14. Which is why the 5.5 on ebay is REALLY looking good! No, it is 6.0 AND ABOVE that everyone should focus on. Don't waste your time with low grade 5.0 and 5.5 copies. BTW, I am no longer the high bidder. Which one of you popped my $2300 cherry after I posted it here. Remember that's is an affordability issue for many collectors on here....5.5s are nice and juicy.
  15. The dorky-lookin' GL? He doesn't even know Hal's "speak no evil" GL chant !
  16. Which is why the 5.5 on ebay is REALLY looking good!
  17. lots of time left in that auction...it should break $3k... i know i havent bid in a few days...just waiting.... I am not as certain now as I was after the first 24 hours. While it is a hot book, if you look at GPA prices (last 5.5 was $1434 in Nov 2008) and the last noted 6.0 going for $3500 (or something like that) then the market for 5.5s might not be at that level, yet. It will be there next year provided the economy does not tank again (a small pull back would be okay), but here's hoping the prices stay down until next summer so we can load up on a few more copies. (thumbs u BTW, it was interesting to note that a friend who works at my LCS last night (he is a GL collector as well) mentioned that the movie delay/$$ troubles might hamper demand for GL books a bit right now. I wonder if this will have any impact or not. Although none of us are experts in the field of crystal-balling, we've been awake in this biz long enough to safely say that a nice SC 22 is a great long term investment and more important, fun to own. I'm 48 and (had) been chasing one since the 70s. The census report that Rich did confirms this: it's rare, a major character intro, a '59 issue, and low qual PQ. There are 9.2 - 9.6s of the other SA keys available. Some of the Boardies own these (wish I were one). There is no KNOWN copy > 9.0 of S22. It is the rarest SA key. I'll rack up all I can get (within financial reason and whatever Rick leaves for scraps). The 5.5 on ebay is just a tad short of what we call the nice ones (6.0 and up). But it is nice. The movie, to me, helps 22s surface that normally would not. (thumbs u As we have discussed, I agree with you on these sentiments. This has long been an undervalued book (along with a handful of other SA DC keys). That being said, I am certain that we will eventually see 9.2+ copies on the market for the simple fact that there are a lot of collections yet to surface over the coming 20 years as long time collectors (or their heirs) sell off. After talking to a few dealers about other books at the SDCC, I am certain there are more HG SC #22s out there that will eventually come to light. FWIW, I wonder if this 5.5 has 6.0 potential? If it was a Clink auction at least we would know based on the action and final price.

  19. I think you're in for a bargain....that is, unless I decide to push up the bidding
  20. I can't see why it did not get a 9.0...but I'm not ON the book either. And I love the blue and red MYSTERY colors...my fave when they show up on JIMs. It's basically a 9.2 book with a tiny Marvel chip out the right side edge. Very common on this book and quite common on early Marvels. Did I mention the pages are white? PQ sicko !

  22. Oh, you're ready to sell it to me already? Sweet!! You'd have better luck balancing the ND (National Debt) than prying that book from Roy's cold clammy dead hands with a cast iron tire tool.
  23. AVENGERS 1 IN 9.4 ?? I know I know. Dream about that unscuffed red and green spine tonight!!!!!
