Great looking book Kev, why not send it to Nick to take a look?

Like I say I nearly sent it to him, but I think 99.999% it will be trimmed, I would rather not know as its my keeper, I couldnt afford anything approaching this grade these days.

I think I paid a few hundred for this, mind in those days that was a lot. ;)

Interesting (thnx) - what would be considered the scarcest Thor JIM over 7.0?

I spent a good portion of the convention looking hard for - and at - these early JIM Thor books, so for what it's worth here's my personal observations:

JIM 83 - compared to other Marvel keys (FF 1, ASM 1, AF 15, etc.) this issue was the least represented. The Golden Record reprint was much more plentiful, of course.

JIM 84 - common in 3.0 to 4.0 (both raw and CGC), only one CGC 7.5 copy to be found.

JIM 85 - only a few scattered copies, including CGC 7.0 and CGC 8.0 each priced well above Guide. I got lucky and found a super bright and white raw mid-grade that wasn't even on display (i.e., I had to ask).

JIM 86 - also only a few scattered copies, several feedback comments that this issue is a favorite.

JIM 87 - only a couple of copies with grades varying.

JIM 88 - I only saw only two lower grade copies, that's it.

JIM 89 - next to the JIM 84, this was the most seen issue with the majority of copies being in the 4.5 to 5.5 range. All were priced at multiples of Guide, with more feedback that this issue is also a favorite.

I used to know the exact breakdowns of copies on census when I was putting the run together, but that was a couple years ago. I know 91 is very tough above 7.0. And so is 93 and 94. 89 is fairly common. Most of the others in the 80s are fairly tough above 7.0.

Agreed - I haven't been able to track one down so far.

I still own my 7.0 copy. One of the few JIMs I kept other than the 83. :cloud9:

If you're interested, you might want to read this thread I did on JIM slab availability a couple years ago. The info is a little dated now, but it's still pretty interesting.

I was at WonderCon (Anaheim) over the weekend and was somewhat taken aback by how many lower grade JIM 84's were available, but only a single mid-or-higher grade (CGC 7.5) was to be seen.

Plenty of low-grade 84s, however, once you cross over the 7.0 threshold, it becomes much, much harder. It isn't the scarcest JIM over 7.0, though it's close. It is however, the scarcest JIM over 9.0...

As of Jan 2013 (last I updated my spreadsheets)...84 was indeed the toughest in 9.0 or better...only 6 copies...3 9.0s and 3 9.4s...

Next up is JIM 94 with 14 copies...8 9.0s and 2 ea 9.2/9.4/9.6...

Rounding out the Top 10 in 9.0 or better (graded slabs)

95 - 19

85 - 20

87 - 20

91 - 20

90 - 22

89 - 23

93 - 24

83 - 25

I am interested, and found the thread useful and entertaining. Thanks for the link and information.

Shame that the photos of the high-graders went poof, however - I'd have liked to see those books!

I picked up these two recently. The Mexican JIM 83 came from Chespirito and the Pence 109 came from Dale Roberts at Motor City Con. Many thanks to Hector and Dale. (thumbs u

That mexican JIM 83 is sweet! And it looks like it came out about the same time as the American version. Cool book.

Just for laughs, I thought I'd bump this baby with two of my better copies. I remember being a little miffed about having to spend so much to get them; the 89 was $15 and the 86 was $25!

Not really thinking about selling them. But, because so much of my collection is low grade, every once in a while I think about cutting loose the nice ones and down-grading.

Sorry, I was totally joking. Probably not conveyed very well. :)

(Though I would totally buy both of those books. lol )
