Need help/info on vintage star wars figures/afa

Rebelscum is a good place and Yakface.co has info and a lot of links like to sirsteve's website. I dumped all my vintage stuff not to long ago to get comics. including the vinyl cape jawa. Prices are going down. I think people are getting sick of Star Wars after the last 3 movies. I only got 3 grand for my collection. Back in the day I could have gotten double that.

I would agree with you that prices for loose (read very, very common) stuff is going down, but carded and sealed have never enjoyed higher prices. These were some of the biggest selling toys in the history of toys so finding opened Star Wars toys is fairly easy. As far as AFA goes, they are a very trusted source, certainly the CGC of toys, and with so many fakes and re-cards out in the market today I wouldn't buy anything valued at more than $200 that isn't already graded. It's like buying an ungraded $200 high grade comic on ebay--how many comics actually show up as described (minus a few of the "good guy" dealers on ebay)?

If you're sending in only loose figures though I wouldn't bother (except for maybe Blue Snags, vinyl cape Jawas and a few of the harder POTF figs like Luke Storm), the prices are really up and down and as I mentioned, loose is really common.

Hi HulkFan,

The best web site for vintage SW figure info is The Star Wars Collector's Archive:

www.theswca.com

THE book on vintage action figures is:

Star Wars Vintage Action Figures: A Guide for Collectors by John Kellerman

This is getting harder to get since it is sold out at the publisher. Brian's Toys has it in stock, though.

AFA is indeed the CGC equivalent for action figures. Their AFA 80 grade is considered Near Mint, but I'd actually say this would be more like a 9.2 in the comic world. Of course, it is tough to make a direct comparison.

Actually my passion for the SW hobby has definitely waned in the last year and I have focused my total energy on this hobby and original art. If anyone has any specific questions, please feel free to PM me.

Ah, I remember about 10-15 years ago finding a guy on the internet who had a half box of the vinyl caped Jawas - the story was that his brother ran the movie theatre, and these were give-aways at the time. Got them for a song. Wouldn't ever think of doing it these days with such high quality repros out there....

Vinyl caped Jawas :luhv:

Have any left? Or did you move them all with the movie buzz a few years back??

Nah, I sold them almost as soon as I had them :)

But I still do have some pieces of the Phantom Menace set from back in '99 when I tracked down all the SW filming locations in Africa and Europe :)
