I have at least 8 early Dell Giant books from the collection that would be a nice prize for any collector.

As noted in Overstreet:

Dell Publishing began to release square bound comics in 1949 with a 132 page issue called Christmas Parade #1. The covers were of a heavier stock to accommodate the increased number of pages. The books proved profitable at 25 cents, but the average number of pages was quickly reduced to 100. Ten years later they were converted to a numbering system similar to the Four Color Comics, for greater ease in distribution and the page counts cut back to mostly 84 pages. The label "Dell Giant" began to appear on the covers in 1954. Because of the size of the books and the heavier, less pliant cover stock, they are rarely found in high grade condition, and with the exception of a small quantity of copies released from Western Publishing's warehouse - are almost never found in near mint.

Dell Giant Comics Walt Disney's Christmas Parade #1 (Dell, 1949)

INFO: First Dell Giant. Twenty-five page Donald Duck story by Carl Barks. Cinderella appears (prior to the release of the movie). Also featuring Mickey Mouse, the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi and Thumper, and Dumbo. Wraparound cover.

CONDITION: heavy creasing due to stock paper, light penciling on cover, very slight roll, bottom right corner piece breaking off, 1/4" piece slight off just above that, slight interior cover shadowing, slight small staining on occasional page, 3" tear on one page but intact, some puzzles penciled in, VG-.

VALUE: Overstreet 2007 GD: 2.0 value = $59; VG 4.0 value = $118.

SPECIAL FORUM PRICE: $50.00

VALUE: Overstreet 2007 GD 2.0 value = $87; VG 4.0 value = $174

SPECIAL FORUM PRICE: $100.00
