NY Comic Con 2008

OK, so I didn't take as many pics as I thought . . .

Truth is, though, very few booths and displays were complete. And, most of the dealers were pretty occupied with setting up. But here's a small peek:

The 3rd floor entrance to the show:

A little glimpse of Marvel's display --- LOTS of stuff, all over the hall, was still in crates. I guess there will be some long hours into tonight and tomorrow morning as everyone finishes setting up:

Are they bringing Captain Action back? (shrug)

Awesome! It's like a sneak peek to the show. I'll be there tomorrow night.

I'll be sure to pick up the X-O Manowar hardcover at Midtown Comics booth; they'll have it as an exclusive at the show as it's not shipping to stores until 4/30. Free poster too! It's cool to see one of the biggest comic retailers in NYC set up after never seeing them at the Big Apple shows.

Friday only (also heading out at this ungodly hour), but I've got a batch of cool new purchases to pick up, some good stuff to sell, and a hankering to check out mass quantities of old funnybooks! Travelling with the Foolkiller and buds, which is always enjoyable. Should be a most excellent Friday.

Nice pics!!

No pics from me yet as I am still on 1 week vacation in NYC.

Harley was nice enough to hook me up with a dealer's pass. Got in Fri. 10:00 a.m just as the hordes of preregistered pros were going up the escalator.

Better organized this time as the artist alley was on same floor as the main comic bk and corp booths.

Friday Apr. 18/08:

Very nice to meet Richie Evans (Bedrock) who gave MutantKeys and I our comp copies of Major Inapak w/ excellent art by Bob Powell. MutantKeys hung out w/ the hi-rollers like Capt Tripps (Pedigree) while at the con.

Very happy to have Carmine Infantino (who loves to kid around as he asked me for $35 to) sign my Flash 123 and Irwin Hasen to sign my GA Flash #3! Waited 15 mins for Nick GoCardy to set up his table. He was selling his h/c art book w/ a nice pencil sketch of Wonder Girl or Robin, Aquaman for $130 each priced by his art agent Spencer Beck.

I thought there was no line up for Chris Carter and his sidekick director in row #5 cause they moved his signing to row #6. Crikey, by the time I got to the line, there were 180 ppl in front of me at 4:25 pm for his 5:00 pm signing which he arrived at late at 5:18 pm. Barely got my X-files b/w pic signed b4 line up cut off and just free promo poster to the unfortunate masses.

got Tara MacPherson to autograph her h/c artbook at Dark Horse booth. Free sketches to everyone! Not sure why she streaked her hair blonde as she was a pretty brunette in San Diego.

wwcomics.com sold a Blackhawk #9 to my homey for 1/2 price around vg+. He had 3 copies. Did not see Matt Nelson at that booth yet.

VERY impressed by service provided Doug Gillock of comicLink. He was very polite, professional and had everything ready for my pick up. Met Josh N. for the 1st time.

Saw Harley crack 3 slabs with his bare hands. e.g. Stranges Tales 101. He is a pro at that too.

Stan Lee with 4 bodyguards escorted him to Cgc booth for HERO Initiative signing at 5:00 pm. We clapped as the living legend (NOT u greggy) passed all us peasants waiting for Chris Carter to show up for X-files 2 promo.

The usual suspects had great OA for sale: Spencer Beck for quantity. Beschara Malouf for quality OA along w/ Albert Moy.

Met 1 rude dealer who had some nice antiquarian art books from Europe. I was gonna toss him $500 for Carl Barks art book w/ signed litho but he seemed to be nutz (full moon tonight!), so I just walked away from his table in disgust. Don't know if it was racial prejudice, as I am a visible minority, but he just cheezed me off! Lot's of other vendors who would like to take my $500 in the Big Apple.

Met Gator Rick and Filter81 Adam who are both very professional comic bk collector/dealers. I will let Detective27kid (Rick) tell his fantastic sale of his entire Timely WALL display to a major dealer in 1 fell swoop! Congrats buddy.

aardvark still vacationing in NYC then to Geppi Museum. Caio!

PS. Also saw live play of Chicago for 1/2 price up in the nose bleed seats for $50 each. Better than Grease, Cabaret or Cry-Baby, Cry. Culture and comix in NYC!
