YES! THOSE ARE 2 LIGHT COLOR BREAKING CREASES IN THE LOWER RIGHT!

Is that color touch on the right ? There are some much darker spots there.

Beautiful book. Too bad about the writing on the surfboard. Looks like it might be close to 8.0 without the writing. Maybe 6.5 with the writing? Tough call.

Yeah 7.5-8.0 w/o the writing (assuming no restoration on the book).

I'm never sure how much to take off for cover writing. It is one of my

least favorite flaws, and I tend to take off a a couple of points for it.

I think this is a pretty fair assessment. is the name and date written in pencil or pen?? can't ell from the scan....

Even if it's written in pencil, it looks to be scratched in pretty good. The "W" in Willie has scratched away the ink.

It's a really nice looking book. Without the writing, I was thinking 7.5, but then saw the light creases bottom right, which might push it down to 7.0. Then there's the writing. Some writing doesn't bother me, but in this case it does because it's front and center.

 

So, was the writing disclosed in the auction, or visible?

YES THE WRITING WAS VISIBLE. THE OTHER FLAWS WEREN'T. I DON'T MIND WRITING ON A BOOK AND IT WAS A PRETTY COMMON PRACTICE. THERE IS NO COLOR TOUCH, IT'S JUST THE WAY MY SCANNER PICKED IT UP.

I'd go 6.5 - I know I am a little wierd, but writing doesn't bother me to much when it was an owner - I kind of think it is neat - Now we know what ole Willie was doing on Feb 17th (just 11 days before I was born) 42 years ago.

6.0. Lovely issue. Picked up this issue when I was a kid for 6 cents. It was the start of my comic collecting 'problem'.

Looks like a light double crease at bottom rt. - 6.5 maybe 7.0 with w/o the writing - interesting because it's OO purchase dated - but still knocks it down to 5.5 territory.

5.5 to 7.5 is a pretty divergent spread of opinions - would love to know what CGC thought of it.....
