Little help please. Questions about independents.

Just received a box care of someone my mother works with. The whole box is basically independent books with a few Garth Ennis Punishers, punisher vol. 1 thrown in. I have never heard of most of the titles in there, figured someone could shed some light.

 

John Sable Freelance - First Comics

 

Grim Jack- First Comics

 

Shadowman - Valiant (Garth Ennis)

 

Bloody Mary - Helix (DC) (Garth Ennis)

 

Alan Moores - The Courtyard

 

Just a Pilgrim - Black Bull (Garth Ennis)

 

The Darkness - Top Cow (Garth Ennis)

 

Hitman - DC

 

Cerebrus - no clue. Issues in the 200's

 

Did I just get hit with a box of trash ? And as stated a bunch of MAX Punishers.

Nothing really familiar, but I suspect that while they probably aren't 'trash' per se, you won't be able to retire.

Start with the Jon Sables. Easily one of the best independent comics ever. Excellent art and stories.

I heard the Hitman series by Ennis was good. I read his Max run, great stuff there

It's "Cerebus" - but issues that late in the series are pretty much worthless, unfortunately ...

Hitman is great, read those. They're actually in regular DC continuity.

Not a lot of value, but the Grimjacks and the Jon Sables are both good reads.

Take the time and a few beers to enjoy a GOOD haul.

Not the money...just the pure value of some REALLY good comics!

As others have stated already, Jon Sable and Grimjack are EXCELLENT reads. First had a strong stable back in the '80. Nexus, Badger, Jon Sable, Grimjack, American Flagg ... not so much big in the bucks arena but LOTS of bang for the buck story-wise.

Grell was at the top of his game when he did Jon Sable Freelance. Truman's Grimjack is a fun read as well.

 

I enjoyed Just a Pilgrim.
