277 posts in this topic

i'm very impatient...no offense meant, as i know you have TONS of work to do, but i must ask..

any estimated date on when rasl and kickass willl be finished?

THANK YOU GEMMA!!

Judging from the rate of progress in this list and the last one, you're probably lucky if they're done before the Super Bowl.

lol i check the damn list at least thrice a week, and its been sitting where it is for months :) I keep saying to myself 'maybe this time...', but nope..

it'll get done someday...i guess there's no rush :)

She bangs out 6-8 titles at a time from what I've seen. But I think the expansions and variant additions have had her busier than usual the past couple of months. Those things have to be a real PITA.

FYI, I believe Gemma is on vacation.

Just a suggestion but it is obvious it is a lot of work for Gemma to add slots to the Registry, so I am suggesting a moratorium on requests, give her a chance to catch up !

Trust me I am as anxious as anyone to get my books added to the Registry. I have been waiting for over a year on some titles. The more variants, extensions, subsets, etc we give her, the more overwhelming it is becoming.

Anybody with me here ? Let's stop the requests until she can catch up.

Thanks for posting this, welcomebackpotter! Glad to see another anti-commie collector out there!

Esquirecomics, Harvey Dude, and I discussed this topic at length last summer and came up with a list. Unfortunately, I don't think any of us ever posted it. (shrug) I'll attempt to add to what welcomebackpotter started. Please feel free to contribute more, or to disagree with my classifications. I only own and have read some of the books listed, not all, so I may be missing something.

I think the following rules should be applied to determine what is included in the Anti-Communist registry set.

1. Main theme of the book must be Anti-Communist. There are many books where the main theme is labor/unions or atomic bombs, and they touch on anti-communism, but I believe they are a separete genre of book.

2. The book must be promotional in nature. Promotional comics were usually published by an organization with a clear anti-communist agenda, were most likely giveaways, and were usually one-shots. Application of this rule will exclude the many ongoing mainstream comic titles from the 1950's that were clearly anti-communist in nature (Blackhawk, T-man, and Atlas era Sub-mariner come to mind).

Anti-Communist Registry

- America Menaced (Vital Publications, 1950)

- America Under Socialism (1948-1950)

- Blood Is the Harvest (Catechetical Guild, 1950) - 2 versions exist, 1 color, 1 black and white

- Double Talk (Feature Publications, 1962)

- Grenada (Victims of International Communist Emissarie, 1984)

- How Stalin Hopes We Will Destroy America (Joe Lowe Co., 1951)

- If the Devil Would Talk (Catechetical Guild, 1950, 1958) - 2 printings

- Is This Tomorrow? (Catechetical Guild, 1947) - several price variants exist, and French version called "A Quand Notre Tour" that has different cover art

- Plot to Steal the World (Work and Unity Group, 1948)

- Red Iceberg (Catechetical Guild, 1960) - at least 6 variants exist

- Treasure Chest (Catechetical Guild, 1961-62, 1963-64) - Vol 17 issues with "This Godless Communism", Vol 19 issues with "Red Victim"

- Truth Behind the Trial of Cardinal Mindszenty, The (Catechetical Guild, 1949)

- Two Faces of Communism (Christian Anti-Communism Crusade, 1961) - 2 variants with different covers

- Yalta To Korea (Republic@n National Committee, 1952)

The following books are on the cusp of being Anti-communist. They all either touch on it or are closely related. Still, I don't think I would include any of these in the Anti-Communist registry set.

Atomic Bomb Themed Books

- H-Bomb and You, The (US Government, 1955)

- If An A-Bomb Falls (US Government, 1951)

Patriotism Themed Books

- Fight For Freedom (1949)

- It's Time For Reason, Not Treason (Liberty Lobby, 1967)

Labor/Union Themed Books

- Freedom or Compulsion (US Chamber of Commerce and Ohio Right to Work Committee, 1957)

- Joe Worker and the Story of Labor (Congress of Industrial Organizations, 1948-1950)

- Labor Is a Partner

Anti-Nazi Themed Books

- Comic Cavalcade: Tomorrow the World (DC Comics, 1945)

- Hansi: The Girl Who Loved the Swastika (Spire Christian Comics, 1973, 1976) - 39c and 49c versions exist

- There Are No Master Races (Public Affairs Committee, 1943)

I echo the request for an Anti-Commie registry. I would not be at all opposed to including ALL of the books identified by Fury above. I think they are close enough to be included.

Of course, I think I have them all and I'm not sure if Fury does which is why he doesn't want them included. :makepoint::baiting:

BTW, who gave Gemma permission to go on vacation!!!! :pullhair::grin:

I don't believe she is looking at the requests until she completes the list in the first post.. when that is done, then she's going to see what has been posted and make a new list.

When was the last time a new set was added?

On the bottom of the first post of this thread is the edited note. Last one was done Oct. 24th.

Currently I am managing the registry errors that are occurring as a result of the update to the site. Once those are complete I will be back to adding sets regularly. Sorry for the delay, I hope to be back at it shortly! ;)
