Lately I have been avoiding eBay like a trimmed comic edge but I went on a bit of a beer-fueled bidding binge on a recent Sunday night and ended up with these two, both comic covers I remember vividly from long gone childhood. :cloud9:

That creature sure looks like D&D's "displacer beast" -- a creature that dates back to the mid-70s and which will be featured in the upcoming Chris Pine movie.

And guess what, it turns out that Gary Gygax himself admitted that he'd gotten the idea from that same story!

"[T]he Displacer beasts I ripped off from the novel, Voyage of the Spaceship Beagle...if I recall rightly. That was one of the monsters in there - they sucked out something from humans with their tentacles, I don't remember!"
