Does anyone else give out comics to any friends or family at Christmas?

I now have three adult family members in addition to two 4 year old nephews that I buy comics for at Christmas.

 

A few years ago after I started collecting comics again, I found out that my step-father also enjoyed reading comics. His favorites are Superman & Dr. Strange, but he reads just about everything. Since that time, I have bought him quite a few TPB's and given him tons of my doubles.

 

Right after I started to give my step-father comics, there was a small comic convention in town that we went to together along with my mom. Neither of us ended up buying anything, but my mom found some Little Lulu comics that she had to have. She literally almost cried when she saw them. Now, every Christmas I try to buy her one or two Little Lulu comics. This year I have 5 to give her.

 

More recently, I found out that my brother-in-law is a huge Savage Sword of Conan fan. I mentioned to him that I had some Conan mags that I was planning to sell for a friend and he ended up talking to me for about an hour about how much he used to love Savage Sword of Conan and that he'd love to read a few again. I had about a dozen to sell for my friend and instead just bought them myself to give to my brother-in-law. He read all of them that night, then called me to talk about the stories the rest of the night. I have a feeling he could become a serious collector. He's talking about creating spreadsheets to keep track of the mags he has. I'm buying him about 10 more issues this weekend at my LCS.

 

At any rate, I was just curious if anyone else on the boards has a family member or friend (other than another board member) that they buy or give comics to at Christmas? I do get them all other gifts as well, but comics now have become a holiday tradition for several members of my family.

if i see something interesting re: wonder woman i might buy it for my wife. i have bought her the Ross WW book, a WW lunchbox, fridge magnet, etc. and she gets first dibs on any WW comics.

 

she wanted me to buy her some fancy limited edition WW doll house with a doll or something put out by some designer but it was like $350 and i said that's just way too much

 

 

the brother of my god daughter had been into spiderman/comics so I had been buying him various hardcover reprints for holidays/birthday when my LCS has them on sale. i have one for christmas and now i hear he's obsessed with something else non-comic. great.

I have 4 brothers who are all, to various degrees, interested in comics. :banana:

This Christmas, my older brother is getting the DC Vault book.

My younger brother is getting an ASM 252 CGC 9.4 White.

One of my two other brothers is getting the Zombie Survival Guide autrographed by Max Brooks. All of us love us some zombies.

 

In the past I've gifted Walking Dead hardcovers and even a piece of Green Lantern original art.

I still give comics to my ex girlfriend's younger brother every year, and I think he's going to be a lifelong collector as a result. I started giving them to him when he was 11 or so, and he's still going strong 6 years later.

I am turning on my siblings young'uns to comics (since I have no kids yet) My nephew has gotten the bug. I usually buy him comics on Xmas and his birthday

 

Yeah, there are a few young ones running around now and my wife and I are planning on starting a family soon...I so enjoy turning them onto comics. I LOVE taking my god son to the toy store to get action figures...then I pull out some of my books and show him...even started buying him some of the adventure books that are out now...

I got a bunch of EC reprints from Jeffb and there were quite a few doubles and triples of some issues. It made for a neat run of Two Fisted Tales that I took to the office gift exchange today. It was a hit!

I just purchased a cool 1950 Jackie Robinson comic from ksk143 for a friend who's a comic collector/baseball card collector and even bigger baseball fanatic...just sent him to him as a surprise...

 

Oh yeah, and Bones comics/graphic novels for my son! :headbang:
