I happen to prefer non-signed comics. I hate when someone scrawls all over the front cover.

:whee:

There are ALWAYS exceptions to every rule.....I've purchased signed comics before, and I don't TOTALLY hate on them...but I love seeing an unblemished and pristine cover. Heck, I'd take a 9.8 Turtles #1 first print any which way but loose....including signed!

And FTR, if you're gonna get it signed.....do it up like that comic above (with the CGC oversight)!

I had SO many comics signed in the early '90s by Laird, Sakai, McFarlane, Stan Lee, and others at cons. Now I have a ton of signed books with no proof of signature!

I was a teenager then, and didn't really care about proof. I just thought it was cool to meet the creators and get their signature.

The books are still cool to have, though. I love my Lee-signed X-men #50. :cloud9:

And that's all perfectly cool....no harm no foul there especially if you love and want to keep those comics (and you actually know the truth)....BUT if you're going to resell or encapsulate.....it's going to result in the same issues: questions about authenticity....and then there are those that just don't want a signature anywhere just because that's their preference.

If I were to get something signed these days, it would be at a con and it would be with the CGC ready to grab and slab.

I can't see how any comic would be graded as a 9.8 with any kind of stress mark. It's very disappointing. It's almost Orwellian (some pigs are more equal than others) where it seems some 9.8's are more equal than other 9.8's. This makes a case for CVA to step in and say which one is better than the other. I really don't think CGC should soft grade anything regardless of what book it is.

Hypothetically speaking, If a comic is flawless but has one spine stress then how should it grade out?

A 9.8 has flaws. Why should a spine stress be unacceptable but a fuzzy corner is not in a 9.8?

9.4 or 9.2

Because them is the rules! :rulez:

Then what is acceptable in 9.6 or 9.8? ???

You really think one spine stress on an otherwise perfect book is 9.4 at best?

It was really because of the size that made me question the grade. It just stands out so bad on that solid black cover. 9.8's come in all sorts of varieties. I've seen them with several stress marks, and fuzzy corners, and I've seen a few flawless books (going over it with a loupe, I grade diamonds) come back 9.8's, as well. Simply put, 9.8's will have flaws. Only a couple, but most of the time, they will be there. 9.9's and 10's? Who knows?

Hello. Here are my two raw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 comic books I have. the first one might be a 9.0. the second one could be a 8.5. These two might go to CGC to get them graded for the future.
