OT - SCI FI CHANNEL

36 posts in this topic

The various Wrestling shows are routinely the top rated programs on cable... :gossip:

Jim

That's all fine and dandy, but Wrestling doesn't belong on the SciFi Channel. If they're so concerned about ratings, why not start a wrestling channel? Whoever is running that station obviously doesn't care about the core audience that made SciFi a viable business model in the first place.

Hell, ESPN is a SPORTS NETWORK and they don't have wrestling. They air bowling instead. Go figure.

I see all the arguments for airing wrestling and have been down this road ad-nauseum (as have many other fans on the SciFi forums), and it still doesn't make their answer any better. I used to watch their channel 5-6 days a week. Now I watch Battlestar Galactica and once that's done, I probably won't watch at all. Hope their wrestling ratings make up for it.

I agree...I don't watch Sci-Fi at all other than BSG...

But from a programmer's standpoint, when wrestling brings in 5 times the audience of BSG, I can understand why they devote two hours a week to it...

Jim

Which begs the question: why are they even in the SciFi business in the first place if wrestling is so much better? Start a wrestling channel FFS.

I think they're still devoted to SCi-Fi.

Isn't ECW only on for 1 Hr. a week? I really don't see what the big deal is. So you dont watch Sci-Fi for one hour on tues. nights -not the end of the world.

No, I only watch Sci-Fi for one hour per week (Fridays) because whoever runs the channel has polluted it with drek. Wrestling is only a side-effect (albiet a very annoying one) and it has become a matter of principle with me to rail against it whenever possible (Yay for this thread!)

The only Sci-Fi they're devoted to are their self produced epics with $2.50 special effects budgets that use CGI crafted from a Vic-20.

That and the Twilight Zone marathons they have on at the holidays. But even with those, they show the same tired episodes over and over and over and over and over.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the whole 'dedicated to SciFi thing', because I just don't see it. Maybe because I've been watching the channel since its inception and have watched it go downhill every year for the last 10 years.

Don't knock Vic-20 graphics man! There's hi-res mode don't forget!

Shatner knows what I'm talking about:

EDIT: Oh yes, and may the Sci-Fi Channel spend eternity boiling in a lake of pus and feces for the profoundly offensive and putrescent abomination that was their Earthsea 'adaptation':mad:

OMFG! GORF ROCKED!

Of course, about a day after I got a Vic 20 they came out with the Commodore 64 and the cycle of being instantly out of date when it comes to computers was born :censored:

I used to play those text based adventure games on the Vic 20 all the time. Voodoo Castle! Woohoo!

Personally I like my Stargate SG1 & Atlantis, along with the new series Sanctuary. If you ever wondered what happened to BJ & the bear, he's been in a bunch of Sci Fi originals lately lol funny as he ll watching him try to play a serious role.

All those Scott Adams adventure carts have big nostalgia value for me. I've been keeping an eye out for any nice, sealed examples :)

Sanctuary. :cloud9:

Sanctuary is ok, though they never should have cancelled The Dresden Files. Or The Invisible Man for that matter a few years ago.

It still chaps me that they cancelled Dresden so they could concentrate on Flash Gordon. What a suckfest that turned out to be.

I just find it insteresting that they fill up airtime with stuff like Wrestling and some of the other rediculous they do, yet when MST3K was on there, they helped to stifle that show by insisting they only riff on sci-fi movies (which took away their bread-and-butter biker, jouvie delinquent and 0 budget adventure flicks that made up many of their classic episodes). Of course, once they knew they were getting axed, they said 'screw it' to the rules and riffed whatever they wanted, hence another Joe Don Baker stinker, Danger: Diabolic, etc.
