They were displayed at the Harrod's comic art exhibit last year. Really great to see them on CAF. I had only seen them previously in small photos taken at the show.

Anyhow, both top-notch examples and would be highly sought after if they were available. Movie or no movie.

To change the direction of this thread a bit-- which page is more desirable?

Great question -- both pages feature a character remembering the Comedian. Wonder if Terry purchased them for that very reason? Personally I would go with the Doc Manhattan page just for character preference reasons, but the Rorschach page is very strong as well, and I would think many folks would prefer it, to have a Rorschach page.

The best pages are the "singular" ones where you can own a single page, frame it, and have it represent the book strongly on its own. Both these pages achieve that easily. Great stuff.

That is THE Comedian page right there.

The Rohr page is nice, and and it's kind of like picking from 1a and 1b...but I would personally choose that Comedian page. One of the most memorable single images from all of Watchmen.

I don't think there's a "wrong" choice there, but I'd take a wager that the collecting public at large would be on the Ror one over the Doc page. He's got that underdog thing happening.

Both are quite worthwhile but neither would be "the one" for me.

So which character is the most desirable? Rosharch?

Clem

For me, the book is called WATCHMEN...not RORSCHACH AND HIS BUDDIES, THE WATCHMEN:P

But, no question, Rorschach pages have always been the most sought after. And this is where the movie might impact the art values for certain collectors...say what you will about the movie (outside of a couple of nitpicks, I liked it a lot), there's no question that Rorschach is the star of the show.

For a lot of collectors, the book and the art begins and ends with Rorschach. It would be really fun to see a pure Rorschach page up for auction now.

It is called RORSCHACH, THE COMEDIAN, and some individual_without_enough_empathys they tolerate calling themselves the Watchmen.

Rorschach page, no question.

Interesting, I know Hari doesn't like to be reminded about Vietnam  but I'm with Chris. This is *the* Comedian page; the sheer glee on his face as he massacres. That coupled with Manhattan's narration makes this my choice, even without Rorschach.

To change the direction of this thread a bit-- which page is more desirable?

Three criteria for me :

1) Has to be a self-contained/self sufficient page with great Alan Moore writing

2) Has to have what makes this book unique, and that cannot be replicated in any novel or movie: it's use of flashback/flashforward and juxtaposition of images from other events in the story to give additional depth to certain sequence.

3) Nice overall art.

Two examples that fits those criteria :

There's a "countdown" feeling (or beat) to that monologue that is just great.

To me that's the greatest page in the whole book.

Now a close second :

Well, here's something interesting, a decent page offered at a buy it now price, which, prior to the movie's release, may not have been considered all that unreasonable.

But not yet bought?

Like many people, I thought the movie was as faithful as an adaptation to the original that you could have considering the differences between the two media. However, faithfulness to the source material is not the ultimate criteria for a great movie. While there were certain great parts to the movie, and certain amazing visual scenes, there were other aspects to the movie that could have been improved (even by a couple of more years of acting lessons ;) ).

Another thing to consider is that with the passage of time and the evolution of the popular consciousness, a groundbreaking work may seem somewhat less so when re-envisioned nearly a generation later.

Best regards all.

Let's just say that the asking price was more than that not too long ago...

Doesn't that answer the question you posed when you started this thread?

Only for that page - but seeing as they're dealers with the pulse on the market -- perhaps it is answering the overarching question. I would still pay very decent money for the right page. The page currently on eBay is not the "right page" for me.

Despite how good or bad the movie was, I would say that the "hype" has died down considerably though.

Please know that I said that on purpose...as Ferzoco likes to say -- I was born at night, but I wasn't born last night.
