Top notch organization for this greatly expanded Emerald City comicon that is an excellent tribute to the friendly city of Seattle, WA. Pics are from day 1 of 2 day con: Sat 09Apr04.

Nice architecture right outside of the downtown Seattle convention center:

We went to Denny's for breakfast as the Cheesecake Factory is not open that early. aardvark88 (far left) and part of his posse of miscreants from the frozen tundra of Canada:

1 of my buddies wanted to visit Gameworks across from the con hotel:

Fox Sports Grill where the Cgc forum dinner was supposed to be held. Short 2 blocks from convention center:

Nice oriental and Pacific Northwest Indian sculpture inside the con floor 1:

Took about 25 mins to get in thru the gate even when I prepaid online for tix to be swapped for badges. About 1,500 collectors in long line up who did not prepay for tix. Some did not get inside the hall until 1 hr after the opening.

Cobra Commander and some silent Ninja:

Pretty sure this was the female wookie. There were 2 of them stalking the con:

Ernie Chan (Conan, Hulk), aardvark88 with drawing I bought from the diverse Tony deZuniga (Savage Sword, Sega games, Sonic Hedgehog, anime game art, Jonah Hex, Red Sonja illos).

Popular Tim Sale was offering free sigs for the 1st hr of the con only. He signed my scarce Heroes mag cover that he never saw before:

P4040301.jpg

Only the 2nd time I saw Joe Jusko (painter) in the Pacific NW. Very friendly.

P4040302.jpg

1st time Bob Layton (Marvel inker and previous head of Valiant?) in Seattle:

Wall display at local Fantagraphics Booth. Is that Lou Fine art on that cover?

P4040305.jpg

Near the freebie table was a long line up for metal pins, 1 sheet movie posters, etc.

Some panel and Sunday strip OA for sale by the son of this 1940s or 50s artist whose name I forgot:

At the Noel Neill (Lois Lane) media guest booth. I was not that interested in the Battlestar Galactica guests from Vancouver, BC tv shooting set, as I drove down from Vancouver, Canada.

I met Douglas Sneyd, Playboy artist, before at both NYC comic-con and Chicago Wizard 2008.

P4040309.jpg

Steady line up for superstar Frank Cho who stated he must have signed and sold 200 copies of his 2 hardcover artbooks in the 1st hr of the con at $25 each.

P4040310.jpg

2 hardcore collectors had their super deluxe Mouse Guard hard cover books (in slipcase?) signed by this great independent writer, artist, inker, painter: Petersen.

Harley and Brian Peets were at the con:

Many kids excited by the Scarab of some hot game called Halo, but what do I know? We did not have video games when I was a teenager. Too old.

Yes, there were vintage comics, $1 boxes, and even undergrounds at the con!

My dear friend, eegabeeva (from ebay Canada) who I bought comics from back in 1976 (far right):

I apologize for the terrible glare from the unique square shaped overhead lights from the con center:

I wanted to buy a male kimono (hand drawn and painted w/ acrylics) for greggy but it did not match the color of his sandals. ha, ha.

Couple of women performing services to raise $$ for the local children's charity:

P4040321.jpg

The forum suggests that all vintage Capt America comics are hot so I better look for some at this con.

P4040322.jpg

Top center is a pic of the scarce female Predator kit from the book series that my buddy bought.

P4040323.jpg

Ms Marvel and a costume from a superhero GA? reboot series, I think.

P4040324.jpg

My posse left at 3:00 p.m., as we did not have lunch yet (even though their concession stand did serve some spicy kumpao chicken w/ noodle dish that dealer Ronnie enjoyed). We visited Xanadu in north Seattle, but they were were closed for the comicon:

The traffic leaving downtown Seattle was terrible on Sat. afternoon, as 5 lanes merged into 1 due to hwy stimulus construction. So we decided to visit 2 Half Price Bookstores as we do not have that chain in Canada.

Went to Tulalip Casino for their prime rib, build it yourself pasta bar, sushi and Chinese food, salad bar, roast chicken, ham, Swedish meatballs, bbq ribs, melt in your mouth Pacific salmon for $18 dinner!

P4040327.jpg

Still hungry? How about clam chowder soup w/ chunks of seafood in it plus a desert bar included in the price? Well worth the 25 minute line up to get into the buffet, although the cigarette smoke INSIDE the casino bothered me. Not allowed in Canada.

P4040328.jpg

Missed out on the Tarantino Deathproof movie posters but grabbed some other posters:

Went diving into the $1 boxes and pulled some reading material!

Overall, I was very satisfied with what seemed like 8,000 happy fans supporting the 1st day of the Emerald Con. High Grade Bob Storms was in a chipper mood and willing to negotiate on his raw quality back issues. Borock was flying solo (not w/ a Heritage booth) running around pro-screening SA Spideys for Stv Sibra (ex of Rocket Comics) and chatting with all his friends in the Pacific Northwest that he only has a chance to visit annually.

I will let greggy report his tall tales of the forum dinner.

I bought my 1st 30c BA Marvel cover variants and here is a better pic of the drawing I was pleased to cherry pick (worship) from the supreme illustrator Tony deZuniga!

Hopefully greggy brought his camera down for the Cgc forum dinner. He refused to pose for any Sat. convention pics, as he was tired of other forumites not appreciating his greatness for being THE Forum Legend. :foryou:(worship)
