I love that Powerhouse Pepper. One of my favorite books as a kid was The Smithsonian Book of Comic Book Comics. In addition to the Batman, superman, and Captain Marvel origin stories, it had amazing funny animal and EC stories. I remember how sophisticated the Basil Wolverton art looked.

 

Basil Wolverton had one of the most unique styles of any GA artist. He used simplified, heavily inked line drawing and meticulously controlled shading to produce surreal worlds that have a dark dreamlike quality. Even his humorous work has that quality. Straw-Man has a sweet copy that looks better than grade. My
