First Zombie in any popular media was the movie "White Zombie" with Bela Lugosi in 1932.

As for a comic, I am not sure, but certainly pre-code horror at the latest.

Zombies as they appear these days, brain eating rotting things that overwhelm people in sheer numbers I would say 1st appeared in comics in Deadworld #1

:applause:

So what is the first appearance of zombies in comics? In pulps? In any form of publication, art, or film?

Osiris? (shrug)

Osiris is not a Zombie! He's a Mummy! lol

"Anubis sewed the pieces back together, washed the entrails of Osiris,

embalmed him wrapped him in linen, and cast the Ritual of Life. When Osiris'

mouth was opened, his spirit reentered him and he lived again."

Zombie-Mummy! hm

I was having a conversation about zombies with some coworkers (the topic comes up surprisingly often!) and we were unsuccessfully trying to figure out what popularized the idea of zombies eating "brains." It wasn't the Romero movies as those zombies just wanted to eat people. Anyone have any idea where this started? Or was it possibly just a misperception by the public based off having to shoot zombies in the brains to kill them? Anyone know?

It was indeed Return of the Living Dead, 1985.

Perhaps The Return of the Living Dead... "Brains... More Brains!" That line was plaid constantly... (1985)

Yep, that would be the ^^

One of my favs, as well :cloud9:

Yep, if you haven't seen it, it's a great one to check out. Also another Zombie flick I just love is Night of the Comet.

Thanks a bunch! I've seen most in the zombie canon but haven't watched this one yet. Really interesting that zombies & brains have only been associated for a little over 20 years... would have thought much longer. Anyway, to Netflix!
