Reno McCoy
For years, I've assumed the Copper Age began with Secret Wars 1, just based on the idea behind mini series and crossovers, so I'm glad I found this thread. One of the best I've read on the boards. So kudos to all of you who participated in the discussion. (thumbs u I've been slowly buying Copper comics to collect/read, typically starting with issues from 1985, when I first started reading as a kid. Now, after reading this thread, I plan to scoot back to early 1984 and start collecting/reading from the very start of the Copper Age, which, of course, started with Swamp Thing 21. Qiky
Wow!! Thanks for bumping this. A work mate got me onto Alan Moores run on swamp thing a few years back and it blew me away. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way. I never understood why it is so cheap to buy considering its significance. Is it just a print volume thing? *Bronze age fan*
I didnt know where to put this...and didnt know if starting a new thread about this was a good idea. This is not a key ...at all. Just was wondering if people read this and enjoyed it as much as i did. LOVED THIS ISSUE!!! If any copper fan has not READ this issue! Pick one up ASAP!!!! Great stuff! IMO Just saw the cover and I really wanna find my old copy and re-read it! Has the story held up over the years? Or was I just real young and the story was so so at best? Kevin.J
I just went and read it Frankie, I think it was a great story and I could remember it as soon as I started to read it. I do however think it was a story of its time and if you put this out today, the new readers just wouldnt get it. I used to love stories like this that were not really in continuity and involved some wayout plot. I suppose thats why I liked DC so much as where Marvel had continuity for the most part, DC regularly had one shot stories and the so called "Imaginary stories where Superman was killed by Luthor or vice-verse. I think that this story still holds up if you are a Bronze/Copper age fan but if not, forget it. 8/
*Bronze age fan*
Cool Bro! Yeah I loved the whole everyone got to fight the champion thing. And seeing every hero try. Hulk rips up the ring...I had high hopes for the Hulk! That loser! I remember The Thing fight was great! I have to dig out my copy now and read it! recognition + popularity of book + popularity of character + value. Not everyone may agree with all placing, but it will be close. Books that are expensive, but not necessarily recognized (like Albedo #0 first printing variants) aren't going to be "major keys" and so forth. Likewise, a book may not necessarily be very expensive, but may be immensely popular, to be considered a "key" (a la X-Men #248.) Status can and has changed over the years. (if you see an issue missing, check the date range given. It might fall out of that range.) Did I forget anything....? The world will be a better place when he starts talking again
RockMyAmadeus
I think there should be a category between Major Keys and Keys, for stuff like X-Men 266 and New Mutants 87. yeah, I think there might be some call for that. Harbinger #1 isn't a major key, but it's much more of a key than New Mutants #98.

I know if you are a fan of Deadpool, things may appear this way. But in general, New Mutants 98 is not THE key book of the Copper Age. There are many other books which may rank higher as critical, depending on your collecting focus. Especially Adventurers 1 Skeleton Variant.
