Question for my fellow DC fans about Joe Kubert

35 posts in this topic

I saw that Joe Kubert was listed as having worked on All-Star comics. I am astonished that he did work on the title, and have to wonder how old he is? I plan to get one signed by him this year, as well as Irwin Hasen. Hasen I just saw last month and he did a great Flash sketch with inks for me, and I cant wait to add his signature to my little collection.

But the Joe Kubert (All-Star Comics) is the same who did Our Army At War?

Wikipedia doesn't mention All-Star, but it does have this helpful bit if information:

In his introduction to his graphic novel Yossel, Kubert wrote, "I got my first paying job as a cartoonist for comic books when I was eleven-and-a-half or twelve years old. Five dollars a page. In 1938, that was a lot of money".

So it's entirely possible that he did work on All-Star in the 1940s.

Yes, he absolutely did. Joe took over Hawkman on the series and drew it for quite some time during that period.

Kubert's been active since March 1942 (See Catman Comics # 8 Voltron story.) Since he started at age 11, I take it the Voltron story was what he was refering to as his start of $5.00 page. I would love to hear all about how he went about achieving that. :cloud9:

There's of course more, but this was from his first 6 years. Looks like he worked with around 5 different publishers from 11-13 years of age (1942-1944). :o(worship)

But the Joe Kubert (All-Star Comics) is the same who did Our Army At War?

why would you go to the boards when everyone knows you just pm me for all things d.c.?

^^ I DO have the first Injustice Society. Low grade due to a 1" piece missing, otherwise a nice copy. I think this will do just fine!
