I'm looking forward to this. I've had no first hand experience with resto whatsoever, so it will be a good (if not steep) learning curve to try and detect what work has been done.

Great idea Kenny (thumbs u

I would love to take part in this... restoration is one of those things that I know little about, other than to steer clear unless the price is right :D I'm in!

Hey Kenny,

Sign me up. Your post sound a lot like the conversation we had when you bought that Silver Streak for me

PS if you still have it you can send that Silver Streak you had for sale a few months ago over to me for some resto checking.

Edit- I dont normally check this forum on the boards. You would probably get a hell of a lot more interest if you posted this offer in General.

Hey Bruce, long time.

The SS #1 is on the way, after you pay me for it of course!

And I hear ya about moving it to General, but we have more then enough people signed up already, and I imagine others will too as the year progresses.

I think it's a great idea too. I could send you some books too if you'd want. I have 3 long boxes of drek I'm selling so I'd be happy to send some off for education. I'd like to get a look at some restoration myself

Just a quick mass update.

Thanks to all that expressed interest. Since turnout was so great I will commence with getting a set of books worked up with notes and photos as soon as my schedule allows(a few weeks)

I should have a nice array of books that will serve as great examples of not only what most known resto procedures look like but also serve as examples of books you might actually buy someday that had minimal work done in the hopes you can spot it before buying. This isn't a study in taking each book the full monty which is easy to spot, but rather showing real time examples of typically restored books.

A spread sheet will be worked up so people can know where they are on the list and when to expect the box(approximately) And to also make sure I have everyones info who expressed interest.

Has it been "a few weeks" yet? :)

Did I see weeks? I meant years.

Seriously though, I did have every intention of working up a few books to mail around, but wanted to do it right. I didn't want to just mail around a couple books with a few things done, but more a few books cut in half... with one half restored and the other half left alone so people had a control group to compare texture, gloss, staples, handfeel etc. Coupled with detailed photos/notes on what was done, and where.

Along with a few books done with what I would call typical, even poor resto so people knew what to look for when buying books. Mainly the minor stuff meant to deceive.

But that all takes time, and resources I don't really have. I did make the offer though so I will put in motion what I had planned and get back with what I will be mailing around. Might take more then a few "weeks" to get together, but it will get done.
