Marvel Teen Titles (Silver Age)

409 posts in this topic

Marvel romance comics history lesson. The long running title Love Romances started as Ideal in July 1948. It ran 4 issues. The 5th issue the title turned into Ideal Love and Romance. The next issue the title turned into Love Romances it then ran from issue #6 released May 1949 to issue 106 released July 1963. This title was then cancelled to make room on the stands for Avengers 1 and X-Men 1, which both appeared two months after this titles last issue.

Marvel did this with many romance titles. Cancelled them to make room for a new superhero comic. It would have been interesting if instead of canceling the title, just change the name to Avengers or X-Men #107 and continue, like they did with TOS, TTA, JIM and ST pre hero to hero switches. Maybe these romance comics would get more respect.

Love Romances #6 :cloud9:

I was reading that Secret Story Romances I posted this weekend; the bottom of every page has a text ad for Della Vision and Miss Bliss. like those later "Who or what is the Hulk?!" text ads that ran in various mags before IH #1 came out.

 Interesting!

So Miss Bliss and Della Vision were kinda like the Hulk #1 of the love and romance comics. Knew I really wanted to finish those short sets for a reason.

hm If you say so.

I'll try and post pictures of the pages at some point.

In the meantime, I'll post a slab.Having spent some time at the easel myself, I can imagine just what Tony is thinking: "Don't worry girls, there's plenty of me to go round!"
