Original Art to Superman #14 cover and Detective #69 cover in Nov/Dec CC auction

Quite awhile back, Sotheby's sold the original cover art to Superman 17, similar pose, but that Superman cover did not compare in stature to this one.

As much as I appreciate WSF 29, the Superman 14 cover is way more iconic. There is no comparison. Too bad the WSF sold privately. My guess is the Superman cover, in public auction, would sell for several times what the Frazetta would sell for at auction.

Those are exactly the pieces that compare. Action #1, Detective #27, etc. This is the top, non-key cover of the Golden Age (and probably of all-time, if you're asking me.)

I saw the art yesterday as I met Jerry at the show. Being the owner a nice, low grade copy of Superman 14, I have to admit it was a bit surreal being right there in front of the original artwork for that cover.

Does anyone think the big tear across the middle of the art will affect the sale price? Why wouldn't the owner have considered restoration on this before putting it up for sale?

Original art is one of a kind, so what would be the hurry in getting it fixed and potentially ruining the value. Leave it to the next owner to decide. Big risk on something as rare as this imho.

Brought up the idea of having the 2 covers restored. Jerry Robinson was against it. He felt that tinkering with a one of a kind piece of comic history was the wrong thing to do. He is the owner and at the end of the day, it is his judgement call.
