Might as well list them all Dan. The Avengers, X-men, Hulk, and isnt there anyone cant remember. I have only found the X-men issue in years of looking.

Of these books, the FF 60 is by far the hardest to find, as nobody knew Marvel was doing it until after it happened.

Glad to see all the neat stuff-I really love seeing obscure stuff like the Dead @ 17 and the Dead Planet!

About the Phonogram 5, I only learned of it from the recalled website. I'm sure it was a pretty low print run to begin with, and has very limited desirability. But it is on the recalled registry set...I'm sure there's more than enough supply for any demand out there.

Recalled & pulped... I have no idea how accurate the info is over at recalledcomics.com, but they estimated about 125 exist. I have no idea on the value, I just loved finding it.

Recalled in the UK AFTER it got to the shops.

The email from Diamond was the usual "Please destroy" which meant none were destroyed.

Most of the retailers I spoke to at the time didn't even know it was an error copy.

Granted, not many were ordered in the UK but I doubt your figure of 125 - 150 includes copies that made it over here?

There are seven of them on eBay right now - that can't be the same book, or is it?

Yup, recalled because of the wrong UPC code

It's doubtful, this one was recalled only due to the upc code on the back. This is issue #5, so the upc code should end in 511, not 411. That was the only reason it was recalled or not shipped. I've been wondering if the only copies out there were "preview" books that shipped early. I've been checking every copy I've come across, about 20 or so, and this was the only one that ended in 411 on the upc code, the rest were 511.

kind of wierd to read a thread, and see your books pictured :baiting:

you could have at least linked the gallery, Dan

Lastly, in my experience, the X-men 423 error is the most elusive. This may be due to the fact that it very hard to spot on online listings without close inspection, but I know others besides myself that have been searching for a long time and have only seen two show up on ebay in the last five years or so. What :o

I wonder if the no :censored: is more rare than the one that shows it? How many shops actually returned the books? (shrug)

I actually just bought a set of these about a month ago. They were in the 50 cents box or dollar box at my LCS. I forget which.

I just checked and its the :censored: IS there version. It's drawn in that Frank Miller tiny way.

For those who want to see it's the center panel of this page...

All images from the totally awesome StlComics.Com message board and gallery. (thumbs u

You think the X-Men 423 error is harder than the FF 60 newsstand? Not doubting you, just surprising. It might be that people don't know what the X-Men 423 error is.

Not quite.

The direct edition in comic shops had the .25 cent circle + the UPC box said .25 cents. The regular newstand edition wasn't .25 cents. It was full price.

The error book has the .25 cent circle, but the UPC is still the regular price. In other words, they have to not match for you to have the error version. (thumbs u

OK, my turn.

The 1:10 Locke & Key: Welcome To Lovecraft Special Edition #1 Variant

:acclaim:

These are hardly ever on eBay.

By my guess there were only 100-150 made and not many claimed because of the regular issue reprint's $6 price tag.

This book was so rare even I had no idea what the cover looked like until someone showed me. You cannot buy what you don't know exists, my 2c

:cloud9: glad someone brought up locke & key ... IMO even regular prints are hard to find as not many shops even order /know about the seires

That's going to change once FOX releases the Locke & Key TV series 2c

I definitely noticed an uptick of sales for raws on eBay. Jump on now.

GUILTY! lol!

I'm a little surprised there isn't more action here. I admit I don't know which end is up in terms of this stuff. There's a lot of self-published stuff continuously getting cranked out by art students and everyone else (I boought some at NYCC from the School of Visual Art kids...I figured I should support their little booth given that they apparently had to pay full-price for the sapce at the show), but it's a matter of anyone picking up on this stuff later, a character making it mainstream, etc.

It's those small batch things that are kind of exciting, though it could be 5+ years before you know whether any of them had an impact.

Crossgen pre-production file copies.

705791-CrossGenChronicles1preproduction_ebay725964254.jpg

Were these the retailer preview #1s that came out before the regular #1s?

I think I have a few.

Pat

No, these are pre-production prototypes. They are twice as thick as the regular edition. Very few produced and given to CrossGen employees involved with making the comic.
