Quite a compelling story... supremely talented artist crosses the race barrier, bombshell actress (Linda Darnell) who inspired the comic-book character leads a scandalous and tragic life, artist has heart attack and dies young at age 37, actress burns to death at age 41, Phantom Lady becomes iconic figure in the hobby, etc.

I'm not a GGA collector, but would absolutely pick up a book on Baker - the guy was pure genius.

Linda fits right into this group of Baker beauties. She also played Lolita in Zorro.

It's hard to believe if not for smoking he could still be alive today (89). We missed out on a lot of great art he would have completed in the 60s and 70s. Maneely also died in his 30s, although he fell from a train.
