I do enjoy looking at your books Hepcat - usually excellent grades and a wonderfully eclectic selection. :applause:

Now, this is a run I have been working on for YEARS. Still need a few to finish it. The stories, though, were so uneven in quality as to make some issues unreadable.

Pets? I'm a dog guy. Lost two last year and have just replaced them with two more rescue dogs. Labradors. A two year old black and an 8 month old chocolate, both desexed males.

Nothing quite like the joy of establishing who is "Top Dog".

I've found it to be brutally difficult in higher grades, even the issues as recent as those from 1963! Have you managed to score any higher grade copies? How about Adventures of the Jaguar?

Well Marty from the back row is still a regular visitor to the front porch where he hangs out with Ace and Cowboy. The WOMAN won't allow Scout outside yet so Scout and Marty merely touch noses through the window screen.

Here's Scout on her perch on top of the scratching post in front of the kitchen pantry this morning:

High grade Archie superhero books? lol

Impossible in anything 8.0 or above. I'm just happy to get a complete copy.

"Adventures of the Jaguar"? Still need a couple for the run. I have finished off the Archie "Shadow" (just terrible at any level - art, story, editorial direction, those involved had NO idea).

Also run and done is the much better "Mighty Crusaders". One of the first books I bought off the stands (yes, I am aware this dates me  ) was Mighty Crusaders #4, with the resurrection of a heap of GA MLJ heroes.

Boy, was I both confused and "interested".

Tell me, Hepcat, what holes does the boss still have in his runs?

They were indeed local soda beverages from the days when every town of any size had its own bottler(s). Snort was a lemon-lime flavoured soft drink similar to 7-Up produced in London, Ontario up to sometime in the early to mid-sixties. The back of the bottle is imprintd with the logo "The Drinksation of the Nation". The bottle with yellow letters on a red background is a Credit Valley Beverages bottle from Georgetown, Ontario. These are not as common as are Snort bottles. I have most of the pop bottles I remember pulling from ice water coolers at variety stores when I was a kid plus a bunch of other Ontario pop bottles sporting eye catching graphics.

Here are the most recent shots of my bottle and glass pantry that I took about four years ago:

Hep, your '64 books are awesome, love that year. Also, Beatles hit the US, Shea Stadium opens in Queens and Worlds Fair as well 5 days later. Both were just a bike ride for me!

Scout looks like a little angel. The WOMAN must be much happier, Hepcat as well. Mazel tov!

The WOMAN grew up in Queens and moved further out into Long Island in 1964!

Indeed! Scout has been just the tonic The WOMAN needed. But we're all cheerier now. Scout has livened up the whole household, including old Ace and Cowboy!

Im interested in the plane in the background.

It's a carved wood scale model of a Republic Airlines DC-8 with the twin goose livery like the ones that used to be a common sight in travel agencies. I paid about U.S.$175 for it back in 2006. I'll try to take some pictures of it this weekend.

Okay! Here are some pictures of my model of a Douglas DC-8 in Republic Airlines livery:

It seems though as if I'm getting worse at taking pictures. Perhaps I should invest in a tripod for the sake of steadiness and lessons in how to use the features built into my 2006 vintage Nikkon digital camera.

Note how Marvel style messy the above cover is with all the blurbs, arrows and various come-ons. Word about Marvel's success with superheroes must have already leaked to other industry participants by this point because after a nine month publishing hiatus the Adventures of the Fly was being given another try aping the Marvel look.

I'd like to upgrade issues #2, 3, 4, 9 and 14. I was of course satisfied with all these issues when I first bought them and for many years thereafter, but the more advanced my collection has become, the more picky/fanatical I've become about condition. Oh well. I suppose having goals keeps one interested in collecting!

High grade, pedigreed books with date stamps - doesn't get much better :cloud9:

Now, as to content, have you read this one?

Incredibly bad, the title story ("The Lady and the Fly") is every bit as exciting as the thrilling cover would indicate.

Suspense! Mystery! Intrigue!

None of these descriptors apply.

Just awful.

But a great book lol

They're just not to be read these days, that's all.

As a kid though I thought the Fly and Jaguar stories were fascinating! In fact the comic that drew me into the whole superhero genre was either Adventures of the Fly 11 or 12 when as an eight year old I found it on the magazine shelf at Lamont & Perkins Drugstore on Wortley Road. I was enthralled!

Incredible as it may seem though, the stories could and did get worse when Archie Comics rebooted and relaunched its superhero line in 1965 aping the Marvel look and style. Here are scans of my Fly Man comics:
