TOS #39, JIM #83 are not on the list??? REALLY??

Detective Comics #168 First origin of the Joker. Batman #1!!! First Joker and Catwoman.

Its an ok list so far, but I am surprised these havent been added already.

Hulk 181 The BIGGEST comic of the bronze age, most popular character since spider-man.

I had the same confusion as you. But then noticed the issues correspond with their numeric placement. Notice AF 15 is number 15, etc...

25. Captain America Vol. 5 (Death of Captain America)

With all due respect, #25 should be FF 25.

1st Hulk vs Thing battle, Avengers crossover and the 2nd SA appearance of captain America (thumbs u A pretty key issue, it's gotta be more important than a modern comic (shrug)

2nd Hulk vs. Thing battle. FF12 was the first meeting. And the rest is worth ignoring. I would go with Cap 25, had a HUGE impact on current comics regardless of if you read moderns. And the Brubaker run will remain THE best era of Captain America, nobody has ever written this book so well.

This brings back memories of the incredible 365 thread from a couple years back with every day featuring the number corresponding to how many days in the year. Tons of beautiful books displayed throughout the year.

I'm reviving this thread. Looks like all the places have been taken, give or take some that may not be the strongest candidates, per se. Any other suggestions?

As a reminder, the list is made up of the ISSUE NUMBER and a comic that was of any significance in that ISSUE, so it is not a popularity nor a character significance list.

For example #3 has two:

Amazing Spider-Man #3 - first Doc Oc

All-Star 3 - First Justice Society

Now that we have a list of books per issue number in some cases, the goal is to pare it down to the single most important, in your opinion.

1. Action Comics (First Superman), Marvel Comics (First Ka-Zar, Sub-Mariner and Human Torch), Superman (1st self titled Superhero book), Batman (1st Joker), Captain America (1st Cap), Incredible Hulk (1st Hulk)

2. Whiz (First Captain Marvel)

3. Amazing Spider-Man (First Doctor Octopus), All-Star (First Justice Society)

4. Showcase (First SA Flash), Avengers (First SA Capt. America)

5. Fantastic Four (First Dr. Doom)

6. Amazing Spider-Man (First Lizard), Silver Streak (First GA Daredevil), Showcase (First SA Team - Challengers of the Unknown), Action (First Jimmy Olsen [un-named])

7. Daredevil (First Red Costume), Action (2nd Superman cover in Action Comics)

8. All-Star (First Wonder Woman)

9. Marvel Mystery (Classic Sub-Mariner / Human Torch battle and cover)

10. Action (early Superman cover in Action Comics), All-Star Western (First Jonah Hex), Tomb of Dracula (First Blade)

11. Amazing Adventure (First Hairy Beast)

12. Fantastic Four (First Hulk vs. Thing battle)

13. Action (early Superman cover in Action Comics)

14. Amazing Spider-Man (First Green Goblin), Smash (First Ray)

15. Amazing Fantasy (First Spider-Man)

16. All American Comics (First Green Lantern)

17. Crypt of Terror - 1st EC New Trend, Phantom Lady (per SOTI - "Sexual stimulation by combining 'headlights' with the sadist's dream of tying up a woman.")

18. Fantastic Four (First Super Skrull)

19. Adventure into Fear (First Howard the Duck)

20. Amazing Spider-Man (1st Scorpion)

21. Ultimate Fantastic Four (First Marvel Zombies)

22. PEP (First Archie), DC Showcase (First SA Green Lantern), Crime SuspenStories (Iconic cover)

23. Action #23 (First Lex Luthor)

24. Conan the Barbarian (First full Red Sonja), Action (Iconic cover)
