Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I thought the stereotypes where made by the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons. . (shrug)

In all seriousness I agree products like Zenescope make comics look bad. However there is a fan base and people do buy them or they wouldn't be made. I'm of the mindset of 'to each their own'.

(However I'm not sure why anyone would pay for porn as it is free on the internets)

AGREED! I think a good deal of the pricing over there is absurd. Can't imagine why anyone would feel comfortable asking for higher prices than those readily available on eBay...but if they like to spend their time fishing, so be it...

I just wish there was an "alternate reality" BST for all of these sellers so I wouldn't have to wade through them to find the reasonable ones!

I think it SOME cases you can ask for more here because people HERE are 'assumed' to be more trustworthy about grading and disclosures. AND are likely to package/ship more securely.

E.G. I might pay more for a legit 9.8 or NM+ candidate here than I would on EBAY because I could see the pics scans and/or trust the seller or both. And I am more confident that packaging will be good.

I can see this for strict NM/MT from respected sellers...but for anything less than that? No thanks. :)

serious question.

Do current Marvel floppies EVER go up in value by any significant amount? (Not including ASM 700)

Yup, but they aren't 1 every month or two like the current Image speculation game. 1st appearances generally are where they are at.

Like Fantomex taking a bigger role in the last Uncanny X-Force, then all of a sudden New X-Men 128 spikes up.

Or if they get put in a movie (iron patriot armor, boosting dark avengers 1, etc).

The books are fewer and farther between, but they dont flame out. A 1st appearance can't change, it will always remain. (unlike a series being hot, then falling out of favor).

The biggest change during this latest boom time, is that silver age high ends, are hitting prices only golden age could, and bronze age keys are becoming the "affordable" books to buy.

In the very strictest sense of the word, post 2000, you need an under-utilized, or small print run book that has a 1st appearance of character that becomes big.

Nyx 3, new x-men 128, etc etc

beyond that, you are really just looking at chasing value added rarity (variants, high grade slabs, tearing off covers to produce send away for a cover, etc etc)

Yes.

Currently, Hawkeye is an example.

A year or two ago, Uncanny X-Force prices ran up, especially number four.

Wow mind mgt #1 regular and variant #1 and #2 just sold for 135$ bin!!!

What is happening!!!

I'll tell you, people are nuts. I'm not sure if I would invest that heavily in a comic that's only going to be produced by Scott.

It's a solid book with a small print run. I actually just read the first three today. Love it. Oh, and i posted this in the Mind Mgmt thread, but here's something you guys should be on the lookout for. This print run has GOT to be tiny and it's the 1st app. of Mind Mgmt. When Ebay peeps catch on this one could be huge. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=22748947 (MCS listing, but they don't have any)

Oh, and i went on comichron but couldn't find the print run. The only print run i could find was for the HC of the 3 stories of the Giant man. (which is not this issue and does not have the mind mgmt story) Maybe someone with more patience can find it? Maybe it's not on there. I looked for a while and got frustrated.

I don't really. I purposely don't give them my business for anything i'm picking up to read. There's sometimes a window to get a copy or two of something that's heating up, but that's all i will do with them. Not doing it really only hurts me since they would probably sell to someone else anything i would buy anyway.

There's a store near me who has some of the most slimy business practices i can think of. The owner is a nice guy, but he's unbelievable when it comes to certain things. On a bunch of books he has it in his system to charge cover for the first copy, and the second copy gets rang up at $8. The employee's DO NOT tell you this and it's not marked ANYWHERE. I got home one day and realized that i had paid $16 above cover price for the books i bought. I went back in and they told me about this super slimeball policy. Then to top it off, they wouldn't give me a refund since i used a card, and issued me a gift certificate. Beyond that, they price their variants through the roof, charge a quarter if you use a debit card, and the kicker, they charge for leftover FCBD issues. They even charged 50 cents a book for the new FREE cyberforce issues same day they came out. Keep in mind that they don't say a word as they are merrily adding charges to your order. There's also been several times when i used to frequent the store on a regular basis that i would get charged a few dollars extra here and there, and they would have no explanation for it whatsoever when i went back in to complain. I would not be surprised one bit if this is a regular practice that the owner encourages. They also have signs up saying that they reserve the right to change a price at the counter due to the "Volatile" price of back issues. There's more, and i could seriously go on for a while about how slimy this shop is, but i realize this isn't really the thread for it so i will abstain.

Not to be a , but why do you go back?

How did you determine that the HC does not have the MM story? Nice work by the way!

Thanks! I did some digging here :) The HC came out in September 2009, so i assumed that Mind mgmt wouldn't have been in his head at that point.. I haven't looked at it, but the one-shot says on the cover the Mind MGMT thing so i assumed it was exclusive content. I would be very surprised if it's in the HC since it was over 3 years ago.
