TOP 5 GRAILS - THAT YOU OWN

1,214 posts in this topic

I'm missing OAAW #81... Metro has a bunch of nice copies, but overpriced imho.

Oh, since you called OAAW #83 the first appearance of Sgt. Rock, I figured you just didn't consider OAAW #81 to be a key.

OAAW #81 is still a very important issue, being the last 'prototype' before the full-blown Sgt. Rock appeared two issues later.

Overstreet has it wrong, though. #83 should be the highest priced issue, not #81, because #83 is the first de facto Rock story. It is also much, much harder to come by than #81.... and tougher to find in grade because of the black cover.

To me, #81 should be a $700 book in 9.0 whereas #83 should be a $2500 book in 9.0. Over the next couple of years, I expect #83 will take over as the top-dog DC war book.

All the same, I'm hoping to get a 6.0 - 7.0 copy of #81 sometime before the end of the year! grin.gif

I agree that OAAW #83 should be more valuable than OAAW #81 which is why i think its the most undervalued key book in Overstreet. Chris Pedrin's book 'The Big Five' gives a thorough and detailed explaination as to why OAAW #83 is the 1st app of Sgt.Rock and i think CGC now describe this as the 1st App on their label. thumbsup2.gif
