"All truth passes through three stages.

First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

---Voltaire

I beg to differ:

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."

Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788 – 1860)

As you prefer Voltaire, I believe this one is more apropos:

I am very fond of truth, but not at all of martyrdom. -- Voltaire

You are correct. The source of the quote is Schopenhauer. My apologies to everyone.

And thank you for sharing the wise quote from Voltaire. I will immediately put that wisdom into practice by taking a little vacation from the board. The need for justice has been a vulnerability of mine.

"need for justice".....that is just plain lunacy.

I know I'm late to the party and all, but I take it Aunt Agatha is the person who started the original thread that was deleted?

"Don't let the door hit you on your way out." - Oakman Oakland

Actually, I think Oakman needs a new nickname. He'll always be a hero because of...

Someone trying to sell VintageComics ASM 1 reprint as an original

Something along the lines of:

Scammer Jammer

Hustler Rustler

Con-hunter

Doosh-killer

Flimflam fighter

That's a pretty damn big gap between violently opposing something and accepting it as irrefutable! Snopes.com has to fit in there somewhere.
