I'm showing my age when I say this but I remember seeing Buddy Roberts and Iceman Parsons in a "hair" match that resulted in Roberts subsequently wearing a wig held to his head by a boxing helmet.

Texas wrestling was the schizz back in the day, but then I grew up to the wise old age of 12 and realized watching guys rolls around on each other wearing speedos was not something I wanted to see.

WCCW was awesome in the early/mid 80's (thumbs u

i loved going to ecw in its hayday. to say it was insane is an understatement. craziest ive seen on tape were the king of the death matches tourny and the best ever..sabu vs funk "born to be wired" where they had to stop the match because they were completely tangled in barbed wire and had to be cut apart

ECW was what got me back into watching pro wrestling. I had stopped watching in the early 90's when WCW & WWF were the only games in town. I stumbled across ECW some time in '96 or '97 and became a fan instantly. So exciting, brutal and different from all the stale krap seen everywhere else

TNA TNA TNA

...

Let the hate mail come in...

I actually liked TNA a few years ago, especially much more than WWE. I have tried to watch it the past 2 weeks, but the guys they have on TV are awful. Scott Steiner needs to come out and cut one of his shoot promos and talk about what a bunch of fat red necks everyone there is. I should not be more muscular than 90% of their talent. They desperately need to get some roids flowing through that company. Some of the guys who put on a decent matches suck on the mic which makes the over all product a snooze fest. I was wondering why Kurt Angle now looks like a new born baby. Then I saw he had Olympic aspirations which would account for him getting off gear.

I loved it until the early 2000's. Even then, it was getting lame. Maybe it was my age or the product. Either way, it just wasn't cutting it anymore.

Dead on. It was the product. I trailed off probably prior to the WWF and WCW merger. I stopped watching completely not long after the merger. It was a complete failure when they bought WCW. When they got it most of WCW's big names didn't even come along, so those dream matches that everyone wanted to see a few years earlier either didn't happen or were just lame. Stone Cold was rocking 2 knee braces by the time they brought in a lot of the big name WCW people. Plus the Raw Smackdown brand thing was lame with the constant drafts. I can't believe I am seeing they still do this. They also should've dropped more of the belts. I don't understand why they would keep the WCW heavy weight belt and call it the the World Heavy Weight title. By calling it that you are making it sound like it is more important than the WWE belt which is in reality the big belt to hold. It's been 10 years of . Marky Mark and his jean shorts would have been cool in 1991. I can't believe they have made him the face of the company the past 8 years.

After what Russo did in WCW I can't believe they have been letting him do stuff since. I don't care what he did in WWF in the early attitude era he has spewed out mostly mess and is annoying.

A lot of the reason wwe sucks so badly is that management is so out of touch with what people actually want to watch..

they had some good newer wrasslers a few years back with their own character development packages..they wrestled a few black out matches and then a few TV matches and then all the sudden had a new character with sucky costume lame personas and bad -script writing.

One was interviewed after being seperated as to why he dropped his uber cool personna for the suckfest..and he said Vince himself said "I don't get it" he had never seen a pirates of the carribean movie at the time and at first was all for the pirate dude..then was like "I don't get it are you drunk? you stagger? hmm I don't like it here you are now a lame guy"

and take Mike Awesome..he was pretty good outright..wwe development somewhere in the twilight zone of not getting it..turns him into "that 70's guy" trying to pick up on the success of the "that 70's show" TV series.

It did not work at all..and some of the story lines..

I knew..KNEW when they had the Vince is dead storyline it was going to go over like a lead balloon..they had to completely act like the storyline never happened because in the middle of it was the Chris Benoit debacle..

WWE could do much much better ..it is like they sent their development folks and -script writers to the "days of our live peyton place school of dramatic writing"

so they continually crank out anyone over the age of 12 can hardly watch.

WWE is like a factory that churns out wrasslers..uses them up until they can no longer effectively compete and still uses them until they are washed out/up.

I remember the good old days "You may win Gordon Solie but you..can not..possess ME" lol

I spent many a weekend on the floor in front of the TV watching wrassling with my papa..

I thought wrestling was cool when I was a kid. I appreciate and respect the athleticism involved, and the "combat" is complete BS. Sure, guys get hurt wrestling (and, sadly, occasionally die) and if you want the real deal as far as combat sports go, then you need to tune in to MMA. Wrestling is f-a-k-e, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. 2c

Let me put it this way..after the house burned down..I went through the melted together stacks of DVDs compacted into wads of melted plastic..and painstakingly used screwdriver/chisel to chip them open to save about 85 of our UFC dvds..

the two towers of melted plastic cases containing the WWE stuff ECW TNA NWA..well it's been two years and I just haven't gotten around to trying..

I did save a miraculous number of old king of the ring MMA dvds and UFC..

I appreciate wrassling as a sport I truly do..I trained with a group and did 1 uno show with several "exhibition matches"..first match went okay..but then before the show was done...I got busted up..broken collar bone torn ligs..etc..but my friend Molly..she broke her leg (femur).

But I like more the no drama UFC..I hate the UFC ring entrances..and smack talk (unless it is just you know a chest pump and come and get it sort of thing)

I wanna see Rich Franklin beat the holy carp outta someone and break his hand on the dude's face..

favorite match of mine in UFC was Rich VS David Louseau he friggin destroyed him..the crow has not been the same since..

I hope brock lesner NEVER ever comes back to UFC..hate hate hate him and his smarmy smug biotch wife..them WWE style talking and mugging in the ring made me want to layeth the smackdown..

if you smell what I am cooking

For me, the golden age of wrestling was late '70s - mid 80's. Nothing like NWA wrestiling with Gordon Solie calling the matches.

Ric Flair

Dusty Rhodes

Ricky Steamboat

Ted Debiase

Mr. Wrestling II

Iron Sheik

Sting

Jimmy superfly Snuka

Wahoo McDaniel

Black Jack Mulligan

Rowdy Roddy Piper

Jake the Snake

Andre the Giant

I know there are some obvious ones that I am missing.

I will throw in one WWF favorite - The Ultimate Warrior. What a freak when he came on the scene!

Word!

Way too many great UFC matches for me to list a single favorite. King of the Cage also had some great matches :headbang: I'm fascinated with regulated violence and simply love MMA, especially the ground aspect of it.

BTW, the Hitman documentary is a must see. As a kid, I dug the Hart Foundation. My dad used to take me to old school Portland wrestling all the time (Dutch Savage, The Kangaroos, Billy Jack, et al).

i loved going to ecw in its hayday. to say it was insane is an understatement. craziest ive seen on tape were the king of the death matches tourny and the best ever..sabu vs funk "born to be wired" where they had to stop the match because they were completely tangled in barbed wire and had to be cut apart

ECW was the best. I am so pissed I missed seeing Hall in ECW for the 2 or 3 shows he appeared with them since one of the few happened to be in Poughkeepsie and Ipreviously had gone to the last few shows with my brother but he moved across the country. I got to see Psycho Sid at Hardcore Heaven and he is a beast up close. It was great in those smaller venues as a lot of the guys would be sitting up on the stage on folding chairs watching the shows after their matches.

I remember one kid in high school stating that ECW sucked basically because you know he never watched it. Then a year later the Dudley's are in WWF and everyone is doing death drops and saying how awesome they are. Too bad they scaled way back on the stuff they pulled. They used to light the tables on fire in ECW before putting people through them.

Taz was the biggest shame. Go back and watch his ECW matches. He threw some guys through tables in the corner with crazy suplexes and I don't know how no one's neck never accidentally got broke. Forget the tables he barely even got to do half the suplexes he used to do once when he got to WWF. Plus he rocked the FTW belt for a while.
