Comic shop grades and slabs their own book...

194 posts in this topic

I went into a comic shop today and was surprised to see a CGC graded Avengers 1 on the wall behind the counter. I was staring at it and the label looked weird. I asked to look at it and when it was handed to me i'm saying to myself...this looks faked. The font on the grade was wrong and then I noticed the company initials were slightly different (named for the comic shop). I was surprised to see this.

The plastic slab looked like it was sealed up and the comic was in an inner well.

I asked to take a picture and was allowed...so here it is. I then called back to ask for the price as I noticed there isn't a sticker price....it is for sale...

Half the bottom cover is missing....I didn't look closely at the book because I was taking it all in that the label was not a real CGC label.

I'm not intending to start anything crazy with the local shop but felt this is an interesting perhaps questionable find.

at least we know they cracked the slab open, and re-used it. CGC hologram sticker is still on it but that label is not CGC's and the only way to get to that and change it, is to crack slab. Wondering why they still used it afterwards with the CGC hologram sticker?

Yeah, but it wasn't TCG and they didn't use the CGC hologram.
