When I first saw this on the newsstand I thought it was a new SPIRIT title...

only to find out it was a look-a-like character called MIDNIGHT...bought it

anyway as it contained good reading.

When I ran across this on the newsstand I didn't realize it was a first issue...

I just thought it was the first time I had seen this title.

The newstand just doesn't look the same any more huh Marty? The closest I came was buying the EC reprints at the comic store. Even though I'd read all the originals, there was nothing like seeing a book like Crime Suspensetories #20 in a stack on the rack.

By the way, did you ever buy any of the more "lurid" crime and horror comics off the newstand? And did you have to "hide" them from your parents?

I picked up quite a few and never had any trouble with parents thinking a "comic book"

would corrupt my life.

Two things came to mind as I picked this off the newsroom wall rack...

who's flying the plane and what is he shooting at with a hand gun?

it's funny how times change. Now publishers with restart a title at the drop of a hat because they know #1 issues have the best pre-order numbers, back in the golden age buyers (according to stories I've heard) trusted books with later numbers because it meant they would not be disappearing from the news stand after just a few issues...Publishers also knew that keeping a title and just changing the contents would likely keep up orders at the same rate, where as restarting a title would give the orderers a moment to rethink their buy of that issue....

I thought it had to do with postal regulations for second class mail. If you started a new title, the PO made you put up another deposit, so publishers preferred to start a new comic using the numbering from the canceled book it replaced.

This series is actually my favorite dodge along these lines because it began as Moon Girl and then became the romance book A Moon, A Girl, ... Romance lol before finally becoming Weird Fantasy.

Other than the classic reproduction shown above...has anyone ever really

seen a complete copy of STUNTMAN #3 ?

mm

I've never seen one in person. Heritage has auctioned a couple of copies.

Link please? I couldn't find them in the sales archives, just some unpublished artwork and a cover proof.

I remember collecting EC comics before Overstreet. Took me a long time to figure out why I couldn't find #1-12 of this title or #1-19 of Tales From the Crypt.

Here's a complete one from HA:

http://comics.ha.com/itm/a/13081-16503.s

Any idea what it sold for?

mm

$155.25 but I can't see how long ago that was. The new HA format doesn't make it as easy to see the sale date. That price seems very low when compared to the price for the three books in the auction I posted a link to.

I think that sale was in July/August 2003.

How much did the three books sell for?

So, I think it's fair to say that the same copy would go much higher today.
