current turn around rates at CGC

This is the time of the year where if they can make some head way this will be the only time since starting in March is when the convention season starts again.

Usually at the beginning of the year most people have less money because they are recovering from X-mas and holiday season spending so naturally CGC submissions will take a short lived hit the start of each year.

However I am hearing the graders are on lockdown till they get caught meaning besides on-site grading it is looking like they will not be at the comic shows just the CSR's.

They just received 3 of my invoices.

So we shall see the turn around time.

They may or may not be catching up but convention season will be starting up again in the next couple of weeks and submissions will increase again so is it short lived?

Not to mention they have on-site grading scheduled for mid March.

That will probably stick a fork in all production for the better part of two weeks.

Two weeks is an over statement.

Its only a weekend show so only down to a couple graders in Sarasota for like two days at most.

Plus actually people will be more satisfied that weekend obviously during on site grading.

Since graders are on lock-down (uhh that sucks BTW) till they are caught up there seems to be no graders attending the normal shows till they are back up to speed.

My understanding is that for MegaCon they shuttle books back and forth to Sarasota, so it's not like other shows where an encapsulation machine is completely out of commission while it's being shipped to and from the show.

This is what I implied.

When encapsulation is the bottleneck, taking one of them out of service for a few weeks while it's shipped across country and back does nothing but compound the problem.

There are two other on-site events just a few months later.

Both events are 4 days long each.

So it looks like the major backlogs are here:

Modern which is currently 100 business days vs their targeted 20 business days turnaround.

Economy which is currently 120 business days vs their targeted 40 business days turnaround.

Value which is currently 120 business days vs their targeted 40 business days turnaround.

Everything else seems to be on track per this page:

http://www.cgccomics.com/services/Services.aspx

Modern seems to be the most impacted as they are 5X behind vs 3X behind for Economy and Value Tiers. It's the cheapest tier but NOT that cheap as compared to the Value Tier.

So what's the answer?

CGC Boot Camp.

They train a temporary floating pool of local graders (or graders willing to travel) who can help with their backlog. These are contractors and not employees. These graders are relegated only to Modern books (which are probably the easiest to grade IMO) and can probably function as Pre-Graders. They'd replace only one of the main graders on a three person grading line. Elevate an existing grader to start another Modern Line (or two). You'd probably need two Final Graders.

Calculations would need to be made regarding how soon the backlog would be whittled down with these floating contractors. Each time they come in for an extended shift, they'd have to "re-certify" with a short test so their contracts should probably be for a minimum of a week. This would also take care of On-site grading.

There are probably trackable cyclical increases/decreases in submissions so a floating pool of graders would help in that regard.

CGC Boot Camp would also be a weekend event... and interested users could pay to just become "better" graders in regard to the CGC standard as well. (So that would pay for the instructor and facility time.)

Just some random ideas...

Yep. Been 80 business days past schedule for a long time now.

Fast tracks and Standards are also behind, though this chart does not show that they are.

With books 5 months behind schedule, maybe CGC ought to be scrapping "on-site" grading?

Don't try using logic. It's a punishable offense.

Sadly, :pullhair:, that chart has been something of a joke for the entire 10+ years it has been available!
