These were not comics for sale at this booth

Every time I see these guys and conspiracy comics set up at a show Its obvious that the show is not Comic oriented.

It was a good show but someone really has to give the sex pillow / sword guys the boot.

Normally, I start my own review thread for the Montreal con, but this year I was glued to my buddy's booth and I didn't have a camera handy, thus I have nothing much to share. I will however comment on what I observed and heard from others, as well as listing the books I sold from my collection.

First of all, the line-up and vendor room access system was a marked improvement from last year's event. Chalk it up to a better venue will multiple entry points and better logistics control by the event co-ordinators - good job guys 'n gals!!! (thumbs u As a result the waiting time to get in was reduced considerably.

The complaints I heard were few, and limited to $$$ value, both from attendees and vendors. The former thought it was too pricey for a single day pass, while many vendors (comic book dealers in particular), were disappointed in sales. Location in the room played a large part of it I am sure for many as the comic book dealers were scattered all over the place - many of which hidden away in corners/wings. But, isn't that always the case at a con? Some win, and some lose.

Other than that I think it was a great success as people were overly positive and enthusiastic throughout the week-end. This event continues to grow and improve each year, so give it a shot!

As for me, it was a great con. I was there helping a buddy and got to use some wall space which was put to good use as I sold the following books:

DD #1 CGC 3.0,

X-MEN #101 CGC 9.2,

X-MEN #120 CGC 9.0,

X-MEN #141 CGC 9.8,

ASM #14 CGC 5.0,

ASM #39 raw 5.5,

ASM #122 CGC SS 7.0 ROMITA JR.,

ASM #122 raw 7.0,

BATMAN #227 raw 6.0 signed by NEAL ADAMS,

FLASH #105 CGC 3.5,

ACTION #252 CGC 3.0,

JIM #62 raw 5.0,

JIM #66 raw 4.5,

NEW YORK'S WORLD FAIR CGC SA 3.0,

WEIRD WAR TALES #1 CGC 9.0, and

WEIRD FANTASY #17 CGC 8.0.

Over 90% of the above was sold to dealers... So my thanks to you guys, otherwise, it wouldn't have been worth my time!!! (worship) But, my other big buyer was a 13 year-old kid who bought my ASM #14 for nearly half a grand!!! :o

Your last comment about the 13 year old is very interesting.

We had a show here in Calgary and our booth saw several youngsters buying comics also. We had a 10 year old buy an Avengers 1 in April's show, and this weekends show saw a 10 year old buy my Amazing Spiderman 252 9.2, my partner Kimik had some sales to under 14's also.

Is very positive information for the future of our hobby.

I agree 27 dollars entry is to much.

The $35 single day for Saturday was worse to a lot of people.

I was working with the media guests all weekend, so I didn't get a ton of time to walk around. The comic selection was pretty good.

To my dismay, ever time I walked by the 1 000 000 Comics booth with Gerry Ross there were people buying.

Tons and tons of walking dead 100 around the show, ever cover, for a lot higher than I figured any of it should be.

There seemed to be a good selection of silver age, but it looked like the best stuff all got bought Thursday night, which seems to be the norm.

It was a good show, the hall and set-up was nice, but I agree attendance could have been higher.

I'll have to post some sketches, I got a couple Darwyn Cooke sketches done, among other things. My friend I was there with got a Frank Cho, and Mignola sketch, among others. They all turned out very well.

Just found this link today. Pretty neat - a photographer set up a lighting rig outside the con on the street and shot a variety of people in costume, some of whom were featured earlier in this thread.

You can scroll from one picture to the next by moving your mouse the left/right edge of the image, or you can click the middle of the picture to bring up clickable thumbnails of everything he shot.

The lighting really does make some cool pictures...

Original stuff!

+1 I calculated that for me only 4% of total sales went to non-dealers. I'm hoping that someone at least was selling to collector/fans. (shrug)

You should watch what you say about Gerry Ross.

I overheard him telling another dealer about how he has a Florida Lawyer writing letters to CGC Forum representatives for a defamation suit he's working on... seriously.

lol
