STAR WARS #1

I will be looking for those 5 and 6 newsstands now for fun.

I would be interested in hearing what you think about the population of these 2 comics. Have I just been unlucky or are these 2 issues pretty hard to find? Let us know if you do pursue this.

Are these the two you are referring too?

No. The newsstand reprints have the word reprint on the cover in the box with the picture of Luke Skywalker. No diamond. They must have a UPC code.

Star Wars #1 seems to be hot on EBAY right now.

Just another example of a comic book that once was hot getting a revival when it`s audience grows up to have disposable income.

I'll be interested to see if Star Wars #1 will be able to overcome the vast supply and reach higher prices if they're being bought and "put back for the future" by nostalgic adults. Just a tiny percentage of the movie audience wanting to own a copy (and keep it for years) would dry up quite a bit of supply.

Or, will it always have so much supply that the prices can't really go much higher than now. hm

Went to see the new movie the other day, and when I got home started looking on Ebay for a higher grade. Prices are now higher than I want to pay so, this is my one and only copy. Having the signature just makes it more special for me.

A little off topic but do you think SW annual #1 has some value?

It usually sells for $8 - 15 on eBay in NM condition. There does not seem to be a difference in newsstand or direct editions as it was published in a period where both were equally common.

As far as the story goes, I think there are some cool things in this issue. It shows that the Millennium Falcon has an escape pod. It also introduces (and kills) an old friend of Han Solo's from his smuggling days. Finally, the story is an anomaly because Luke's dad and Vader are two different people in a story told by the S'kytri. The art is above average for a Star Wars comic from this era. (Carmine Infantino was doing the art on the title.)

Being a Star Wars comic from the original Marvel title, I feel this issue has some long term potential. I feel the only thing that holds it back is how many copies are available, which is true for most of the original Star Wars issues. There is demand, but there is also a supply to meet the demand, for now.

I see the original Marvel Star Wars comics, similar to the ASM silver and bronze age run of Spider-Man in that a lot of people got into comics because of them and a lot of people remember reading them.

With Star Wars now again breaking box office records it might be a good time to start looking at the other issues, besides #1 as an investment?

Star Wars was the most popular comic book sales wise during the 1970s. I could see a whole bunch of people wanting to go back and buy them.

FWIW, I just sold a lot of reader copies within minutes of listing on ebay (I typically do auctions with BIN). The same lot sat thru several cycles of listings just six months ago.

1st Han Solo, 1st Obi Wan Kenobi, 1st Chewbacca, 1st Millenium Falcon, 1st Jabba the Hutt (old design), and proof that "Han shot first"...

The people paying $2000 + for a copy of regular Star Wars 1 in 9.8 are probably feeling buyers remorse right about now. My guess is after the movie comes and goes this book will settle in right around $1000.

Looks like it's already getting close. Saw one go for $1300 on an eBay auction a week or so ago and another today ended at $1125. The $1450+ BIN listings have not had any action. Wonder if they go sub $1000 before all is said and done?

Consignor will never see payment on this thrill bidding. Especially with 9.8 copies plummeting faster than a lead balloon and this BS result going way above realistic sales.

I was thinking the same bidder may have bid on the IH181 9.6 for 7200 and the TMNT1 9.8 for 22k.......to name a few more stunners
