Leonardo Dicapro's character from The Departed was based off him in the movie Infernal Affairs...

TOS #50 jumped awhile ago, Patrick. And why Mandarin vs Fu Manchu - that possibly goes into politics and racist portrayals of Oriental characters that might have been 'accepted' 40/50/60 years ago in publishing/film but are not now (not that they should have been at that time, but it happened). Plus, I'm not sure Marvel/Disney really has publishing/film rights to that character? MGsimba77
Xaltotun
Fu Manchu is a Sax Rohmer creation. The character doesn't belong to Marvel. Edited April 20, 2021 by Xaltotun MGsimba77, Lazyboy, HighVoltage and 1 other 3

I imagine they do not want those rights, not a well-thought-of character apparently. He isn't necessary anymore, the name has no cache and now has some negative connotations. No need to hitch up to that guy to sell Shang-Chi anymore. MGsimba77, SuperBird and F For Fake

They always divert from the source material anyway but yeah if someone like Starlin didn't like it that would be too much of a problem! It's the right call! I couldn't find confirmation one way or another. When Gene Day, the acclaimed artist on the latter part of the series, passed away, then Doug Moench left, they let the series end. It wasn't selling well at that point anyway.

Did this book pop past current prices last time R'As was in a movie? I know he has been in a ton of the TV shows and that doesn't matter. I can just see this exploding if we have a future Batman movie where they replicate this image or something. Not high grade though... Sorry to sidetrack but seeing this just reminds me of the amazing, epic thread in General where Neal Adams popped in maybe 12-13 years ago. The OP was some former comic artist (Michael something, I had vaguely heard of him) arguing about the earth's tectonic plates (or something along those lines) and apparently he's friends with Adams who is passionate about that topic...and Neal himself jumped into the discussion. Somewhere in the thread they strayed off the topic (thank God, lol) and he responded to a question about why he drew Batman shirtless on that cover even though it's a one-piece costume. It was fascinating. Of course after that he was hit with an avalanche of other questions and disappeared. Anybody else remember that? "Blindly" despite my own observations over decades of the relative scarcity of newsstands compared to directs (in the wild or slabbed) for many, many Spidey, Hulk, and Iron Man books, but also other issues from the mid-80s to early 90s? And then the consistent accounts here on these boards and all over the internet? You gotta go with SOMETHING, so I went with that. Sheesh. At the end of the day, I really don't care. Like I said, it is what it is, and prices are what they are for certain books. It all makes cents, and I am ok with that so long as I can plan accordingly. If the consensus says they are less common, I will respect them as such. Seriously though. It's YOUR turn. Enough with the conclusory remarks and pony up some articles, blogs, or charts that say otherwise? If you're correct, that would be cool, and folks (me included) would like to know. So don't disappoint! I await your studious response with bated breath. Its clear you don't need charts, data, math or anything else to know in general newsstands are harder to find and even harder to find in high grade & anyone who has been collecting comics for any period of time knows this to be a fact,. I grew up buying my books at either my local comic shop or at 7/11 and anyone who has had any experience buying from a 7/11 rack know just how bent, beat and damaged those books were in the 1970/80s finding a 9.8 today from one of those racks is like finding gold. That's if you can get my Laffie Taffi finger prints off the book. TheBook and Morganmi
