3 years in prison for comic books

Without knowing what images or comic related material was involved it is impossible to pass judgement on the individual or the case. Who knows what the prosecutor considers obscene in that jurisdiction? As Charles Brownstein of the CBLDF states, it could have been something along the lines of an old Robert Crumb underground comic. It could have been any number of manga comics. Heck it could have been an Image comic. We once were reported to the Houston vice squad for hanging a Fathom/Witchblade poster in our store window. It is obvious this guy couldn't afford quality legal representation. And any number of comic book images could be misconstrued as child pornography by someone looking to find it. Consider how Wertham classified Batman and Robin. So be careful before you say "string 'em up" without knowing all the facts. The next obscene comic they confiscate could be yours.

"The comics "contained multiple images of minors engaging in graphic sexual intercourse with adults and other minors" according to an announcement by the District Attorney. "

Again, there is no list of the comics, no specific information on the artists, writers, publishers. Just one DA's announcement of of his opinion that the images he viewed were offensive to him. Could it be possible that if he were to go through any of our comic collections he might find something that is equally offensive to his sensibilities? This particular DA, in his judgement, may find something along the lines of Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie's Lost Girls to be "clearly lack[ing] any literary, artistic, political, or scientific value." It certainly could fit the descriptions applied to this case.

I agree. Alan Moore's Lost Girls fits the description. If so many dealers at every comic convention could suffer the same treatment. The CBLDF is here for just that reason.

I doubt it was something published in America, or even sold legally here. Odds are it was one of those child rape mangas that have to be illegally imported.

the world is just full of sick people. I agree with Richard, we should never judge a book by its cover (couldn't help myself there  ), but this sort of behavior makes me sick. The fact that someone could even think of hurting a child.......
