Gaines had a reason that the blood on the axe was black instead of red I believe. I think he said red blood would have been in "bad taste"... fifties Posted October 28, 2015 Share Posted October 28, 2015 Most of the pre-code horror books did show restraint on their decap themed covers. Even Fight Against Crime 20 showed a "clean cut", as did CSS 22. The Weird Mysteries 6 that I posted on the last page was one of the few that didn't, AFA mutilated flesh, and of course the Roly Poly issue which showed blood dripping.
